Thanks to all of you especially Chuck and DaveH...I am a new convert! No, unfortunately for you allI didn't leave the LDS religion, but I did purchase a new bow lastSaturday (Gotta start somewhere right!?!)
I now see what you all mean about bowhunting being highly addictive! I have both my elk and deer tags and the season opens this Saturday. UnfortunatelyI will be on business and family vacations untila week after the opener, but guess where I'll beon the 26th?
For those of you who want a budget minded bow, the Reflex Highlander made right here in Salt Lake City isjust awesome. I really wanted the Reflex Suoer Slam, butit was just a bit out of my price range. The newHighlander is very close though. After shooting many bows,I think this was the best deal for the price ($350.00 Cabelas). I put a Cobra 5 pin sight; Whisker Biscut, peep and S-Coil on it. Man,I wish I could stay home from business trip and vacation!
Anyways, thanks for the advice gang, It worked!
God Bless,
Porter

Great..I had mine out Sunday mornign shooting from a platform of about 12foot. I did pretty good. I've got an older slow bow. It's set at 60 pounds. If I can give you some advice it would be
a. Shoot carbon arrows. Shoot straighter better groups.
b. don't go cheap on a site. Your shots wil probably be in low lighting.

From a stand position Dave emphasizes to bend at the waist to keep your arrows not shjooting low or high.

Anyways, thanks for the advice gang, It worked! Yeah..the power of suggestion is powerful...the reason why I quit watching TV. ...also the reason why we choose our friiends wisely and are selective on opening up e-mails. Glad to see ya back my friend. You have a lot of wisdom.
God Bless,
PS I don't know what kind of Cobra site you have bought but I got rid of mine. Last year when I saw a hog the site was black and I couldn't see nothing. I replaced it with a better site. Blackgold Cobra makes a lot of different sites and yours may be ok.Mine was not.

Good deal. I love bowhunting. It's a blast. I also own a Reflex and they make a good line of bows. I'd buy one again if I had to. Sounds like you got a good setup too.
Glad to have you as a bowhunter! Have fun!

Congrats!, it's always good to see a new hunter joining our ranks, with the bow, but more important is your coming to know Jesus Christ, and when that conversion occurs, it will surely be time to rejoice!
Congratulations Porter! You'll become a better hunter all around by becoming a bowhunter. Attempting to get close enough for a bow shot forces you to get better at scent control , being quiet, etc.
I've always wanted to chase critters like elk with my bow, but I don't have any around here. I wish you the best of luck and expect to see pics and hear a good story of any successes.

Thanks for the responses guys. I just retuned from business, but unfortunately I won't be able to go out as planned. One of our congregants passed away this week and it is my ecclesiastical duty to conduct the funeral. God and his children come first.
I may be able to make it out on Saturday for a day hunt and then return in the evening for Sunday meetings the next day. I'll have some time off during the labor day holiday though. We'll put her through her paces then. That is the great thing---4 months to hunt rahter than just 2 weeks!!!!! What a blessing!!!!
Chuck, thanks for the advice on the shooting. I went and purchased a few books on Bowhunting and read them on the plane and during conference breaks while away.
By the way, this Cobra 5 pin sight is incredible! It wasn't cheap ($83)and has been excellent in low light conditions. I had it out at dusk the other night and it was almost like looking at a night sight. The fiber optics on this one are very good. I'll get the model to you if I can. I also purchased a real nice Cobra release with an adjustable trigger. It works wonderfully well.
I have it sighted in at 20, 30 and 40 yards. I'll look to become proficient at those distances and then set the other two pins at 50 and 60 yards.
The conversion has been great. And by the the way dapoppy---I can promise you I am fully converted to Christ! He is my light and my life! He is what is most important to me. Rejoice with me that I'm already there and working to become a better man in Christ each and every day. I still have much work to do.
DaveH---I agree with you 100% on becoming a better hunter. I have noticed that Bowhunting forces you to be in even better pysical shape as well. Out here in Utah, Both Mule deer and Elk are at much higher altitudes during bow season that at rifle time. It will push me to have better endurance and strength. In addition, it takes a lot more strength and stamina to work on pulling and holding a bow for the shot than a rifle.
Rev---You are right,I may give up the7 mag altogether! Naw, I still keep in for the Cow rifle hunts and for bears and boars in South Texas.
Reb---I wish we could do crossbows here. They are allowed only if you are disabled. Maybe some time in the future. i notice a few more states are adopting them.
How many of you have state lands that are bow only public hunts? I have noticed there are few states with these as well. DAVEH isn't Maryland one?
God Bless you all.

You think the cost is over?......Now you have to see which broadheads, arrows and sites you like best to hunt with...and all the extra goodies!
