Default What is an Orphan?

James 1:27 says that we MUST care for orphans and widows in their troubles...

so what is an orphan?

My wife and I may be adopting a child through DHS. Would you say that a child that has no parents due to death is an orphan? A child that has no parents due tothe fact that theirparents cant or wonttake care of them are orphans?

The reason I'm asking is that my wife wants to adopt a child, it is a dream of hers. I on the other hand have some issues with it. I am trying to study it in Gods Word to understand it better, maybe receive revalation about it.

Biblicly, Orphans represent a picture of the Church that has been scattered, and rejected by the world. In John's Gospel I believe, Jesus tells the Followers, "I will not leave you as orphans". While we may be under seige by satan, and feel like orphans, without a father in the Flesh, in Spirit we are given the Assurance of a great inheritence, that was set aside for us a long time ago!

Just wondering, is a "spade a spade" or does it represent the Church?

My dear friend, an orphan as James speaks is the fatherless. We adopted a special needs child 15 years ago.It is very rewarding. We also adopted ours from Children's Services. I do have a little warning. There is a 75% chance that your child will be emotionally handicapped. This is a very serious handicap.Ours recieves anger counceling and has killed 3 of our pets in his early age. He is doing much better now.
Until my son is 18 we are fully responsible for all of his actions. I've had Children's Services come in my home and check my refrigerator an dordered me to put a lock on all of my guns if I wanted to or not. He is Alcohol Syndrome. We wanted to adopt more children but with Alcohol Syndrome we are only allowed to adopt one. Many turn out to be serial killers and tha tis why the strict supervision. The police saw some patterns and ordered the 24/7 supervision as well. Pray about it and make sure. The bondin gtook much longer that we imagined. He is 15 and this is the first year that I really feel close to him...and I play with my kids all the time.
