After these things Jesus shewed himself again to the disciples at the sea of Tiberias; and on this wise shewed he himself There were together Simon Peter, and Thomas called Didymus, and Nathanael of Cana in Galilee, and the sons of Zebedee, and two other of his disciples. Simon Peter saith unto them, I go a fishing. They say unto him, We also go with thee. They went forth, and entered into a ship immediately; and that night they caught nothing. But when the morning was now come, Jesus stood on the shore: but the disciples knew not that it was Jesus Then Jesus saith unto them, Children, have ye any meat? They answered him, No. And he said unto them, Cast the net on the right side of the ship, and ye shall find. They cast therefore, and now they were not able to draw it for the multitude of fishes. Therefore that disciple whom Jesus loved saith unto Peter, It is the Lord. Now when Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he girt his fisher's coat unto him, (for he was naked,) and did cast himself into the sea. John 21:1-7 KJV.
Where were they and what were they doing? They were back in the sea and fishing for 'fish'. What had the Jesus told them they would be doing? "You will be fisher's of men." The Spirit of God had not yet filled the followers of Christ, so these men had fallen back to what they knew they could do. oh how many times in my 77 years have i not obeyed and went back to doing what i used to do..I'm so ashamed.. Unfortunately we do the same thing, though for the follower of Christ, then we are not doing that which would honor God. The men heard Jesus tell them that they had caught any fish and then He told them where to throw the net and the net became full. In fact it was truly overloaded and yet the net did not break. Jesus is revealed to John and John shares with Peter. I mean Peter is out and off into the water to be the first to Him. You and I could need to understand that God has a path for us and it is not'fishing for bass , but fishing for men and letting them know that God has a place for them and truly wants them to be in the family of God. Yet for many, they will reject His love and plans for them because they want to do their thing. For the disciples, this would be one of their last times where they would seek for themselves and not see the plan of God for them. It is the same for you and me, God wants us moving toward His Son and becoming more like Him. He wants us to have that love and consideration for one another and to get that fiery desire in our heart to go out and tell the old, old story, that Jesus saves..you know if one soul is saved it will be worth it all..
