Default Living with my conscious

I am having a difficult time living with my conscious at work. My boss has recently gotten very greedy. He just doubled our price list for material, ( I am an electrician), when prices were pretty high already. The company is very profitable and not in financial trouble. The owner is very well off so I don't understand this new greed. He doesn't have to face the customers with a bill, I do. Here is one example, $62.55 for a GFCI recepticle. That does NOT include labor. Anyone can buy that plug at home depot for about $8. I believe this to be wrong. It is his business and he can run it however he wants to, I understand that. I can no longer be a part of that though. Please pray for me to find a new job with a fair and ethical employer that will give me the ability to support my family. God has always taken care of me and I believe He will now, no I know He will. I believe He would want me to leave this position and will guide me to one that would allow me to act in a more ethical manner and no longer feel as if I am cheating customers.

Good for you. I think it's great that you have the ethics and the moral compass that tells you not to work for this man who is gouging his customers to satisfy his own greed.

Why not start your own electric business? You could certainly undercut him and get many of the people who might have used him.

I don't yet have a masters license or the start up capital. I will be taking the masters exam in August or September.

I agree totally with Dave H's reply.Good fo ryou my friend. The world is full of rip offs. I ry to do as much asI can without calling anyone.

The other day I had to call my Christian electrician to put the cover back on that goes over th ebreakers. He had installed the new box. I do some monor wiring in the house but was told to go behind the panel you should be a licensed electrician. I don't go there period. Anyway he pulls open th ebox and saw a paper wasp. He threw my cover on the ground and told my wife " You will have to do it, I don't like bees." My wife figured it out but Ithought that was rather unprofessional.

Again ..we need more professional people like you.May God bless you with a more better job than your present one.

Tx Rookie, if the fellow is over-charging, the free market forces will take care of it.

Stay with your job till you get your Master Electrician lic.
Start putting your nickles and dimes aside. Make as many contacts as you can so that you will have a custormer list.

Get a small business loan and go into business for yourself 2 to 3 years from now.

You can do it.

God has blessed you with being in the right place at the right time to allow you to do it.

Take advantage of the blessing God has given you.

Thanks

Tex, you're not the one who is ripping the people off! He is the one who will have to answer to his maker one day!

You have a good conscious brother and God knows that! When you have your own business, remember to do unto others, as you would want others to do unto you.

Isn't there some sort of law against this in Texas?

There is in Ca., but then again, Ca. has a law for everything. Our law says something about how much more you can charge for a part or service based on fair market value. It's designed to prevent price gouging.

Anyway, don't quit your job until you can provide for your family first. Your conscious is clean with this, just remeber it as a lesson for later when you start your own business.
