In the day in which we live, there is much opposition to keeping any commands of God as it is erroneously viewed as being saved by works. I simply want to point out how the early churches, (thats right, churches as more that one) were established.
Acts 16:4-5 And as they went through the cities, they delivered them the decrees FOR TO KEEP, that were ordained of the apostles and elders which were at Jerusalem. (note who ordained these decrees that were to be kept) verse 5, And so were the churches established in the faith.
II Chron. 20:20 Believe in the Lord your God, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper.
John 7:38 He that believeth on me as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.
Acts 24:14 But this I confess unto thee, that after the way which they call heresy, so worship I the God of my fathers, believing all things which are written in the law and prophets:
Matt 4:4 Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.
II Tim 3:16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine
Since the original church that was established in the Act of the Apostles, was established upon the keeping of the words of God, the Apostles, and the Prophets, was it established upon works?? or was it established upon faith??
I say Faith. Saving faith that when it hears, see's, or someway comes to the knowledge of Gods will and desires, demands a response to that will or desire. Saving faith that will not rest until obedience if obtained.
Mat 19:17 And he said unto him, Why callest thou me good? [there is] none good but one, [that is], God: but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments.

Bro Alex, you quoted Rev 14:12 above which brings up another question,
Can one keep the faith of Jesus, (as mentioned in this passage) and fail to keep the commandments of God?
Jhn 14:15 If ye love me, keep my commandments.

Jhn 15:10 If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father's commandments, and abide in his love.

these were Jesus' own words...and he only gave us two... which combine all 10 into these two in my book.... you know 'em as well as I do... they both are about Love, and have NO "not"s in either!!
like Jesus said: keep HIS commandments...I didn't see where he referred to any others....
Jhn 14:15 If ye love me, keep my commandments.

Jhn 15:10 If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father's commandments, and abide in his love.

no problem,Bro.... the Man, hissself gave those....however, that was Pre-Jesus... befrore He announced that He would do a "New thing"( New Covenant)... many folks disregard what Jesus was saying here.... there was the "New Sheriff" in town, with "New" rules.......may be only 2 rules, but betcha can't obey 'em any easier than the previous 10 !!! He simplified the "rules", but they are just as hard to obey....
Why does people think that Jesus fulfilled the "old" Law, and returned to its' slaving attributes? not a chance... Jesus opened a NEW covenant with us, which contain HIS commandments... remember what God said:Noone will enter with going thru Jesus...it doesn't say "he who obeyed the Laws given on Mt Sanai"... New Covenant, New Way.... New Commandments....
That's my take on Jesus' explanation of Who He was, What He was here to do, and What the New Way was gonna be.........I have no doubt that the 10 Commandments were wrapped up into 2 single commands.....and APPROVED by the Father, or else Jesus would have said to obey all 12....which he NEVER mentioned. He spoke of 2.... not 10 or 12.....2, His two......
In my Mind... the 10 are done...and have been upgraded to a broader range that's just as hard to fulfill.
The 2 are only a summary of the 10, for if You Love God with all of your heart and all of your soul, the other 9 will not be a problem.
Someone who loves God beyond all things will ot worship other gods, will not steal, will not commit adultery and will no covet or bear false witness, will not murder etc,and will keep the Lord's day which is the Sabbath.
That is what He meant, it was a very Jewish thing he said and the people around him understood it as I have understood it.
To say Jesus did a new thing is erroneous, it was the old thing placed in its proper context.
Shalom

Jesus did a NEW thing...a human as sacrifice for sins.... come on Hawk... the Old Covenant is DONE. the New Covenant is established, and it was accopmplished thru a NEW way... nothing erroneous about that fact,Bro!
So then you are not saved ? because the Word is Clear as to whom God would be making a New covenant with:
Jer.31:31-34:Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah:: Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt; which my covenant they brake, although I was an husband unto them, saith the LORD: But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the LORD, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people. And they shall teach no more every man his neighbor, and every man his brother, saying, Know the LORD: for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith the LORD; for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more. (Quoted in Heb.8:7-12) This is a permanent forgiveness of sin.
Christians are not yet under the New covenant, you are in fact under the same covenant as of Abraham, that is a covenant of faith.
Or as known in the New Testament saved By Grace through faith. Ephesians 2:8:9
and since youare not the house of Israel Or Judah you are not under that covenant.
Jesus died under the covenant of Blood, that is not New.
Shalom
