HOW DOES ONE DISPOSE OF A WORN-OUT BIBLE RESPECTFULLY?
When I was asked this question I have to admit I answered, "I have no problem disposing of it in the trash". That did not mean that I do not believe it or have less respect for it, but this particular copy of the Bible has fulfilled it"™s purpose (to point mankind to God for a starter). Therefore, it should be "put to rest". This of course prompted my curiosity and I wrote approximately twenty ministers, Bible Societies, Publishing companies, etc. No one gave me an acceptable answer.
Thus, here is a thought. A congregation could have a "Bible Sunday". People would be invited to bring any unusual Bibles (various foreign translations, aged Bibles, etc.), which would be placed on display in the lobby. The Sunday School lesson, the sermon, and the selected songs would revolve around the Bible. Then, a special "Worn Bible Ceremony" could be shared. As a "Call" was extended for worn Bibles they could be brought to the platform and placed in a special container. It would be stated that they would be privately and respectfully burned as one does a worn American flag or they could be buried. This would be a decent disposal of old worn Bibles which were unusable.

Hog the burial sounds like one way to go if you think about it, in addition to the Dead Sea Scrolls there has been scripture found buried in other areas of the Christian and Judaism old eras.

If they are in good shape my wife takes them to the local book trader and drop them off. I like the burn idea too Reb. Thanks, I threw an old Bible away the other day and felt a check about it. I buy alot of them used from garage sales but they do wear out..especially for us hunters.Sweaty pants and drizzly rain. or misty mornings.

Well, to tell you the truth, I have mine on a shelf here at home along with my motherand fatherin-laws. I personally have never burnt one. I have some old onesthat I don't use cause I mark in them and date passages and chaptersas the sermon is being given. Over the years I have purchased four different one's (KJV) inlarger print.OH, I also buy old, old ones at the flea markets when I see them. I have some from the 1800's with the owners names in them.

This is a very special Bible I got in 1980, wore it smooth out in less than five years. There is no way I could ever get rid of that Bible, it has too many battle scars and memories in it.. This is what I did for this one... I have others that are worn out now, they just get put in my book case.
