James 4:15-17
15For that ye ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall live, and do this, or that.
16But now ye rejoice in your boastings: all such rejoicing is evil.
17Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.

I struggle with boasting sometimes. Hope its not me[&:], but if it is, I can use the prayers.
But not sure where i could give you any advise. I will look up some things about pride tonight. I was listening to Proverbs today and there was alot of references about follies and such.
Hope its not me[&:], but if it is, I can use the prayers.
no brother, not you, not any of the regulars on the hunting and religion page, but i continue topray for you daily, i just have a really hard time with folks that brag all the time, i have always had it, i have interupted my normal reading for a time to research it myself, i guess the older i get the less tolerant(sp) of certian thingsi have become, i can still sit back and laugh though (most of the time[:-])

Most people who boast do so from a deep seated need for recognition, usually something that was woefully lacking in their formative years.
I have a friend that does this A LOT..
Their Dad left them and their mother of course, for another woman. he was the youngest. And, to make things worse, his older brother can do just about any ding dang thing you want done..
My friend isvery intelligent, but suffers dearly from a feeling of inadequacy.
To make things worse, he is very literate, but forgets what he tells you -Lol.
So one time he shot 20 elk and the next time, he only shot 2.
I played music for many years and regaled him with stories of my experiences.
His brother told me that this guy sat in with a few friends a few times and messed around with the drums.
But, nowwwwwwwwwwww, to hear him talk, he has done everything that I ever did, and better.
And, the guy is so dang convincing , if you didnt know better, you would believe it all, and many people do. Aside from that one flaw, he is a real good friend and a great guy.
I know what it stems from and I either just listen quietly or change the subject....
I've prayed for him a lot...but so far to no avail,,..
Ah well, he is still my friend..
Leep Out:
I don't know Leep. I got this real good friend, who is an only child, was loved to death by his parents, had everything I could imagine but brags more than any person I ever met in his life. There has to be more to it.
thanks for the replies, this has encouraged me to study the scriptures and look for the answers, that has to be a good thing.
leep i here ya, i'm not sure which is worse, my intolerance of it or the one-upping everything that is mentioned, it gets a little old[&o], also like you mentioned, great guy, i really have trouble understanding the situation....and the last thing i ever want to do is hurt someones feelings...i'll be doing alot of continual prayer on this
ya'll have a great rest of the night, keith

I really beleive Leep had some awesome insite here.
"Most people who boast do so from a deep seated need for recognition, usually something that was woefully lacking in their formative years.
I have a friend that does this A LOT.. " Leep.
I can surely relate. I grew up in a horrible home. My grades were horrible and I was a flat out loser. However; after I was a Christain and " All things became new." great things became happening so I would meet folks with :Guess what God is doing in my life ." I mean it was like I went from a D student to an A student. I was thrilled to death and I'm sure it came across as boasting. Fact...many have acknowleged me as such. I've learned over the years to control it somewhat but it is still a job containing myself after gone through a rough childhood. It's like I've moved in with a rich father.BUT I am learning and boasting is unbecoming. The scriptures say "Let another man's mouth praise you and not your own lips." and "Humble yourselves before the Lord and He will lift you up." So the correct thing is seek the praise that comes from God alone.
Pride slays thanksgiving, but an humble mind is the soil out of which thanks naturally grow. A proud man is seldom a grateful man, for he never thinks he gets as much as he deserves.

i remember those, and i may be wrong, but i have the most difficult time with someone bragging, how to handle the situation, i may be in the wrong for judgeing the person, as i mentioned i have always struggled with it, and you are correct, it is very unbecomming, and i pray i never appear in that light to someone else[&o], i'm sure it has happened but i never intentionaly would act this way, usually i'll stand back in the shadows, i've never really been a glory hound, even though God hascertianly blessed me far greater than i could have ever imagined, in areas of my life that i have been very fortunate in,andi always give God the credit, but they are just earthly things, and in the big picture don't mean anything...i hope i am conveying what i want to say and this isn't comming out wrong
