I believe all prayers are answered. The problem is many people are expecting something completely different than what God wants for our lives.. Sometimes the answer is no, sometimes the answer is wait.
So many people think of God as a vending machine God. Go up to it pick out the blessing you want and press the button.

Remember what Jesus said when he prayed in the garden, " not my will by thine be done!"

Bro Rev, I doubt that any of the Hebrew slaves who were born and subsuquently, died while in Egyptian bondage, would agree with that.... I belive we're told that God says No whenever its' necessary... and when nothing happens, that pretty much means no.... it could mean "wait", but he'll give you assurances along the way. He's told me No more times than He should've had too...
We must be careful not to fall into the Name it ,Claim it type of believer...He'll answer ALL prayers that fall into total harmony with His plan. ifthey don't....wellllllllll...........all bets are off

You know, I don't try to figure God out as much anymore. Cause if I could understand his ways, he wouldn't be much of a God. I know I wear that statement out. But its true.

rev pretty much covered it. usually we are expecting a different answer than what God is trying to say....we try to hear Him say what we want, and inturn miss what He is really trying to tell us

Romans 8:

Quote:
26 Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.
We don't always know what to pray for. The thing I deem to be in my own best interest, may not really be what's best for me.One of thekeys, I believe to prayer, is what Rev mentioned. Asking for what you need, if it be the Lord's Will.
The other key is found in John 14:12-14....

Quote:
12 "śMost assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father. 13 And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14 If you ask[a] anything in My name, I will do it.
When we ask in Jesus's name, in accordance to God's Will, we always get the right answer...it's just not always the answer we might want. The bible also tells us that we're not to have a spirit of fear. That we should " boldly approach" his throne of grace. Whenever you have a problem, that seems too big for anyone, give it to God. It may be that your problem will be used so that God can be glorified because of it's solution.

In summary, ask for anything you think you need, if it be God's will.
Ask it in His son's name, without a spirit of fear.
Wait patiently for the answer.

If you can do these things, you'll find prayer to be very effective.

One more thing....share your burden with your brethren. The bible tells us: James 5:16..

Quote:
16 Confess your trespasses[a] to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.

In Him,

GH

I've learned not to pray in this way " This is what I need, and this is how I want it, and I need it yesterday", as I finally at one point realized that what I wanted was not always what was best, or even good for me. I plead my concerns and appeal to the Lord to do as he wills and have discovered that His will for my life is so much better than anything I could will for myself. This sounds simplistic but to let go of things, doing the best I can do, and having faith in my Father is so much easier.

My mother used to use an analogy of a young child seeing a shinny, silver pair of scissors and reaching out for them. Its mother would take the scissors out of reach and not let the child have them.

In the past I have prayed that God would "fix something for me" Instead He showed me how I could get off my butt and fix it. (God helps those who help themselves???)
