1 John 5:18 Here is an exact qoute from God himself, read it carefully please. We know that whosoever is born of God sinneth not; but he that is born of God keepeth himself, and that wicked one toucheth him not.
I ask, can we trust and believe God? Did God speak anything other than the truth? Or is the bible not given by inspiration of God? Is the scripture just a novel written by men?
The bible says that the one born of God keeps HIMSELF. God gives the power and means, but the final decision is up to the one who is born of God.
Romans 11: 21-22 For if God spared not the natural branches, take heed lest he spare not thee. V:22 Behold therefore the goodness and severity of God: on then which fell, severity; but toward thee, goodness: otherwise thou also shalt be cut off.
Please explain "eternal security" in light of these scriptures.
This is the same verse I posted in the "Eternal Security" thread.
I John 1:17 "But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin."
IF we walk in the light--that means we have a choice to do so, or not. We have to uphold our end of the bargain. IF we do that, Christ's blood cleanses us.
A verse that a lot of folks like to quote to "prove" baptism is not essential is Ephesians 2:8. I won't get into the baptism discussion here, as it's been covered from one end to the other and proven that you must disregard numerous verses in order to brush it aside. However, that verse is 100% true, and tells us that we are saved by grace. Now, compare that to Galatians 5:4 where Paul tells some of the Galatians that they are FALLEN FROM GRACE. If they have fallen from God's saving grace, what condition are they in? They were once in His grace (can't fall from it if you aren't first in it), so they were in a saved condition. When Paul made this statement, they were no longer in God's grace--so what is the only answer?
Dabowhunter, you need to look at the "Eternal Security" thread--you have a message there.

If you will start at Galatians 5:1 and go through verse 4 you would plainly see that Paul was telling those Galatians that were depending on the Law to save them that they would then no longer be under grace, and therefore be fallen from grace. To use part of that verse to say a saved Child of God can fall from grace is not the correct useage for that verse. For verse 5 tells them the true way to be saved, Faith.
Reading verse 3 in the same way of thinking (yours) would make every soul that has been circumcised a debtor to the whole Law (the Jewish Law, which is what Paul is speaking of here)and not able to be saved by grace. How can that be?!?!?! It can't!!!
Galatians 5:1 "Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ has made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage."
They had left the Law andcome to Christ--they could not stand fast in something that they were not a part of. Some had turned away from Christ and back to the Law, and had fallen from grace.
Jewish circumcision was a lot more than just the act of having the skin cut--there was a ritual to follow, and it was required to be a Jew. Simply having the surgery done was not considered circumcision by the Jews. Being of the circumcision was used in referance to being a Jew and being bound to Jewish law, which profits nothing under Christ.
I agree--you have to read the entire account, and take it all in context. The Jews were not under grace before Christ, but under the Law. How could they fall from something that they were not under? Simple answer, they could not.

Shawn, do you believe anyonewho haslearned the word, accepted it, repented, confessed and was baptized(born again), cannot lose their faith and do whatever they want?
