I probably won't be around much for the next few days. Today is my last day of work and after I finish putting my garden in, I'll be getting ready for the turkey opener next monday. The crappie are just about to spawn and I've decided to take a vacation tuesday.....so look out turkeys and crappies! GH is on the hunt......I'll be keeping an eye out for those sneaky morels too! Anyway, I'm so excited that I can't wait. If I could just put another 4 hours in the day I'd be tickled pink!
Take care and see you in awhile!

May God bless your fishing and hunting. I just took out a pack of frozen crappie fillets for Friday night. Whenever I give them away to others I have them promice me they will soak them overnight in buttermilk. They are all always amazedat the outcome of the fish.It firms them up and makes them mild as the mildest saltwater fish you can imagine. Have fun brother.

Never heard of doing that Chuck....butI might try it. I've been meaning to ask you something....have you noticed anything different with your fishing in the wake of the hurricanes last year? My uncle has a winter place down there in Florida somewhere and he usually catches a BUNCH of crappie every February and March, but this year he said they just weren't there. They caught a lot of nice largemouth, the biggest of which was 11# 2oz and lots of 4-5# fish, but the carppie were not biting much. He said the localsseemed to thinkthe hurricanes have messed up the crappie spawn this year. Just curious if you'd heard anything like that.

Yes my local fishing management charges 50.00 to fish Lake Hydrilla. It is free now because since the hurricanes fish being caught has gone way down.My uncle has a winter place down there in Florida somewhere and he usually catches a BUNCH of crappie every February and March, but this year he said they just weren't there.Crappie....Best year ever I've caught over 300.If your ever in the area please stop.I'll take ya fishing .They caught a lot of nice largemouth, the biggest of which was 11# 2oz and lots of 4-5# fish, but the carppie were not biting much. Grass Hopper ,
What part of Florida is your uncle from.? AS far as the Crappie..according to the web my spot is considered the best spot in the United States for panfish. The Crappie must be at least 10 inche slong and there is a limit of only 10 per fishermen. The depth finder have helped me alot this year. I fish at the ..
Tenoroc Management Area.
They have about 12 lakes which are managed quite well.

I was down on Lake Okechobee earlier this year, and the folks at one of the parks there (primarily retired folks that love to crappie fish) said the hurricanes had really buggered up the fishing there--the water was still muddy. Haven't thought to ask lately--maybe it's better by now.
