Default Baptism topic posters

I would like to ask persons posting in Baptism topics, Are your opinions about baptism, a direct opinion from bible study ? Or are you using bible verses to back how you were brought up ? who's opinions differ from how they were raised ?
My mothers church believes you must be baptised, in the name of Jesus only, and you must come out of the water filled with Holy Spirit and speaking in togunes.

I was actually taught the things I believe now as a child. But, I went through a time of struggle, and spent many years away from the truth. I did study my way into the faith I now posess. I am posting Scriptures that represent a direct result from my study.

brknarrow, You mention your mothers church, how were you effected by it? What about your Fathers faith? Did it have an effect on you. What is your stand on baptism? What lead you to those conclusions?Shouldn't we start the study with the views of theone who starts the thread?

Baptist:
[blockquote]
Christian baptism is the immersion of a believer in water in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. It is an act of obedience symbolizing the believer's faith in a crucified, buried, and risen Saviour, the believer's death to sin, the burial of the old life, and the resurrection to walk in newness of life in Christ Jesus. It is a testimony to his faith in the final resurrection of the dead. Being a church ordinance, it is prerequisite to the privileges of church membership and to the Lord's Supper.

I attended my mothers church, between churches, I didn't feel it was the place for me. I believe my father to be an unsaved loved one, and this affects me ! I attended churches and still do, that the believe baptism was not what saved you ,but was commanded to be done after being saved, To follow Jesus example. Untill reading these posts on baptism, I never realized there was such a debate over this! Snooky would you answer my questions now?
I really hope thesesoopionateddebaters reply

Matt 28:18-20
[18] And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.
[19] Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
[20] Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

Brknarrow, I've pretty much stayed out of this baptism debate for several reasons of my own. One being that I feel as long as one gets baptized scripturally for scriptural reasons, how one defines the levels of importance is comparing apples and oranges to me. I do feel that it is Christ's blood that saves us period and if that blood is applied to us we will be baptized.
That said, it sounds like your mother and I hold very similar beliefs concerning the baptism.
I can say I was certainly not born into my understanding nor influenced by any other thing but my understanding of the word. I've worshipped and studied under several denominations and moved on as I developed my own insights. What about your mothers faith/ church made you feel that it wasn't the place for you . . .if you don't mind my asking.
By the way , I don't think we've addressed one another as yet but I have been reading your posts . . welcome . . .keep em coming.

Leaf,
First of all thank you for the welcome.
To answer your question. I feel they are too critical of other denominations, I feel there will be people in heaven from various denominations, Luthern, baptist, pentocostal, ect...
