Ive got a little problem and was wondering if anyone could help me with this issue.
I was born and raised in a catholic church, from baptism to confermation i have been a catholic. I kinda lost touch with the man upstairs for awhile and i am now rebuilding my relationship. I am looking for a church to attend. And here is where lies the problem. My girlfriend attends a methodist church and she really likes it. she wants to me to start going with her. I dont have any problems with the methodist, and there are several things in the catholic church i dont particullarly care for. But i have not enough catholic in me to want to attend a catholic church, but too much catholic in me to attend anything else. Everywhere else i go i feel like im cheating my religion. Is this normal or am i just being crazy. any advise would be much appreciated

I have a friend that faced the same situation, only his wife was Catholic and He was Pirmitive Baptist. They reached a compromise and and attend the church of Christ. In the Bible we are instructed to seek unity, like in 1 Corinthians 1:10 "I appeal to you, brothers, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be united in the same mind and the same judgment." So I guess I would just encourage you to read the BIble for yourself and do what it says over any feelings, and/or pre-concieved ideas you may have. The Bible is right, no matter what anyone else says! God loves you and wants to be a BIG part of your life. So just listen to His word. If you ever want a Bible study course or any other Bible help, I'd be glad to send it to you free. There are many on this forum who would gladly study with you and pray for you and your girlfriend.
I've been lately going through a similiar dilema. My conclusion.
Your main church is what you do in your home.God seeks folks who worship Him in Spirit an din truth. Be th eman of God in your life . Iv'e been to alot of denonminaions. A Methodist is a good choice especially if ya like it. I've been to some alive Methodist and dead ones. Pray about it my friend but read your Word asnd strive to walk in obedience.

I almost suggested an Episcopal until I read about their doctrine online. Yikes...stay away.
Friend,
Again...the worship that pleases God most is the worshhip you give Him outside of your church. Pray about where to go. Look for fruit , a God fearing pastor, and one that preaches as close asa possible to the Word.
You can find online what each church believes my friend from non bias sources. Check there. YOU WILL NOT FIND ANY PERFECT CHURCHES.

G5; Not trying to set you in any doctrinal path, (although I have strong feelings concerning the necessity of sound doctrine), but just giving a word of caution from the scriptures.
Jude:1-25 A little book with only one chapter, but full of great advice. V:3 contend for the faith which was once delievered to the saints. V:6-16 warns of the danger of becoming a "wandering star". Where ever you set yourself, put down some roots that will result in fruit bearing. A tree that is moved every year may survive, but unless it's root system gets established, it will never bear fruit. Jesus warned that unfruitful trees were to be cut down and cast into the fire. Don't allow yourselves to be tossed about with every wind of doctrine. You must remember that christianity isn't a popularity contest, it is a matter of being right with your God and pleasing him.
thanks everyone for the advise,
im thinking as long as i follow gods will through word and action it should not matter of what church i belong. I guess the man made differences is just something i will have to overcome and find a fellowship that really sparks me. i have heard of a non-denomionational church that i might try. thanks again for the advise
god bless

G5, no matter which one you decide on, you open your bible andread the scripturealong with the pastor, if it is different than what's in the bible, it's time to move on!
I keep recordby datesofhis sermons. He can never tell me , "I never said that".
