My son we adopted nick name is Babe. I'm off until April 4th and decided to take him bass fishing. Reb..we were at Tenoroc Lake 5. I was flipping the beds but only catching bucks guarding the recent fry that was hatched. Babe tried flipping but the trees kept getting in the way.
So I ask if he wanted to trt a weedless spinner bait in which he agreed. He said, "Since the small ones are on the beds I'll cast out there in the middle for mama." It wasn't long and his rod was bent. As I saw big mama breaking the surface I loudly admonished him to keep the rod tip up and not to lose that fish. I wish the camera wsn't malfunctioning. I would have loved ya to see his 6 1/2 pound 24 " bass. He smiled from ear to ear and for his April birthday he wants a lot of spinner baits.

Alex...he landed that fish by himself . I only netted it. It was at a catch and release lake so it went back in the water. That is very nice of ya. He is a very negative young man but when we got that fish in the water he had a serious smile on his face. He said ,"I will never forget this day." That's what it's all about. Our first mission outreach should be to our kids. I'm a slow learner. These next 3 years I'm hoping to fish a few tournaments with him. I signed him up for a Kids Fishing Derby on April 1 st. We will see what happens. His school is in session now.We kind of played hookie. We may play hookie Friday too. Thanks for the rest of you guys for replying. I've been reading the post daily ...just trying to back off a little. It's kind of embarassing seeing so many post with my name on it. I'm enclosing a picture of him with his usual attitude. Sittin gwith him is my mother in law who kindly watches him every Sat. He is under our strict visial supervision till he is 18. Fishing may be a good theropy for him.Sat. we caught 40 crappie. We had a ball.
What a beautiful story. I have two boys of my own. Sounds to me like you are on the right track with him. Remind him when he says he won't forget this day, that you hope that there will be many more just as good if not better. Thanks for sharing, Larry
Chuck I am convinced that God gave man fish to where man could draw thier children closer to them by taking thier kids fishing!
You talk about a true blessing, God blessed me with letting me video tape both of my twins catching thier first fish!!! Here is a photo sent to me by my next to the oldest daughter, she sent it to me and told me it was her favorite photo of her and I together, she was 16 or 17 when this was taken.
