Default Prayer or Lack Of

"Knowing that intercessory prayer is our mightiest weapon and the supreme call of all Christians today, I pleadingly urge our people everywhere to pray.Believing that prayer is the greatest contribution that our people can make at this critical hour, I humbly urge that we take time to pray, to really pray.
Let there be prayer at sun-up, at noonday, at sundown, at midnight--all through the day..let us pray for our children, our youth, our aged, our pastors, our homes and let us pray for our churches..
Let us pray for ourselves, that we may not lose the word concern out of our Christian vocabulary. let us pray for our nation. let us pray for those who have never known Jesus Christ and redeeming love, for moral forces everywhere, for our national leaders..let prayer be our passion. let prayer be our practise."
These words were spoken by Robert E. Lee over 100 years ago.. he felt there was an urgent need for prayer back then and my friends the need is as important today as back then.Amen?
God help our youth! I am scared to think what this world will be like when my granchildren are my age..(77) the changes that i have seen in my life, and the most are for the worse, are disheartening..what will they face?
Our Pastors and our churches need our daily prayers..how many churches have closed and how many pastors--good men-- have just given up? and too many have fallen into sin and have Ichabod written above them..Lord have mercy on the Pastors and upon all those that are still preaching Thus saith the Lord..
And our nation, it is not the America that i grew up in..we face what is probably the biggest threat we ever faced as we battle the terrorist of Islam..still our leaders act as if everything is fine and go on bickering and playing politics..pray that their eyes will be opened..
there are untold millions lost without Christ and without hope..pray for each of us to see others as Jesus sees them, to love them as He does, and do whatever it takes to get them the gospel message that they might get saved..
Jesus said we are to pray without ceasing and that the fervent prayer of a rightesous man availeth much..you may never know what difference your prayer has made in someones life..
whenever you question the worth of prayer, or wonder what difference might make, think of Daniel..he would ratheer spend a night in the lion's den than misss a day in prayer..prayer meant something to him.. does it mean that much to you?
Have a great week and tell someone about Jesus..:

Thanks for those thoughts on prayer. I'm as guilty as the next guy of trying to deal with things in my life that, by all rights I should just pray about and wait for God's help. That's not to say that one should just pray....see James 2:14 following.....

Quote:
14 What does it profit, my brethren, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can faith save him? 15 If a brother or sister is naked and destitute of daily food, 16 and one of you says to them, "Depart in peace, be warmed and filled," but you do not give them the things which are needed for the body, what does it profit? 17 Thus also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead. 18 But someone will say, "You have faith, and I have works." Show me your faith without your[d] works, and I will show you my faith by my[e] works. 19 You believe that there is one God. You do well. Even the demons believe"and tremble! 20 But do you want to know, O foolish man, that faith without works is dead?[f] 21 Was not Abraham our father justified by works when he offered Isaac his son on the altar? 22 Do you see that faith was working together with his works, and by works faith was made perfect? 23 And the Scripture was fulfilled which says, "Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness."[g]And he was called the friend of God. 24 You see then that a man is justified by works, and not by faith only. 25 Likewise, was not Rahab the harlot also justified by works when she received the messengers and sent them out another way? 26 For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.
We need to be sure we're trying to help as well.

Prayer as an individual is very powerful and humbling at the same time, prayer as a group is so powerful that it humbles us all in the results.

Excellent encouragement motor.

Amen to that Bro. Motor. I am a firm believer in intercessory prayer. I have had so many experiences with the power of prayer (from big things to small things) but there are two things that stick out the most in my mind.
I remember some years ago that out of nowhere I felt an urge to pray for one of the youth members at my church. It was such a strong urge and I didn't know why I felt the urge since I really didn't know him well at the time, but I obeyed and prayed for him everyday for the next two weeks. Then one day I just stopped. Two years later at a church fellowship we were sitting around talking and that particular youth starting explaining to somebody next him (by this time he had already given his life to the Lord) that there was a time two years before that he had felt such a strong urge to give his life to Christ for about a two week period but all of a sudden after the two week period the urge left him. When I heard that I was floored. I asked him more or less about when it happened and it was the very same time I felt an urgency to pray for him. I often wondered after that if I had continued to pray for him, would he have made his decision sooner?

The other thing that sticks out in my mind is my youngest son. Of my four sons, he was the most challenging when it came to discipline. Sometimes I felt at my wits end and it was at that point when all I knew to do was get down on my knees and cry out to God. When I did that, every single time without fail, he would be peaceful and I would have no problems from him.

These things and many othershave served to confirm in my mindabout how powerful prayer is. Sometimes we might not think our prayers are being heard, not realizing that God is working behind the scenes and the answer is always coming and our prayers can make a difference.

Good post Bro Motor and the wise will take it to heart . . .no ifs, ands, or buts about it.
