In Acts 7 the Bible tells us some remarkable facts about Moses, just before his failure and exile to the back of the wilderness. First, we are told that Moses knew God"s will for his life"that he understood that through him God was going to deliver Israel. Next, we"re told that Moses was well-qualified for the job as deliverer"he was trained in all the wisdom of Egypt. And, obviously, Moses was in the right place to do what God wanted him to do. I mean, if you"re going to deliver God"s people from Egypt, where do you have to be? Right. Egypt. (Mercy you"re brilliant!) A fourth thing we learn about Moses is even more impressive. It says that he was "moved in his heart" toward a real need: in other words, that His motivation was compassion for his brothers. Think about it now. Think of the foundation Moses had laid for success. He knew God"s will for his life. He was in the right place to do God"s will. He was well-prepared; he had the training necessary. He was motivated by love and compassion toward meeting a real need.
And what happened? He made the wrong choice. He failed.
But why? How? I think at least part of the answer is found in Exodus 2. There we read that Moses, before killing the Egyptian, looked this way and that way and when he saw that there was no man, he murdered the Egyptian and buried him in the sand. Moses" problem, it seems, was that he forgot about God and focused only on men. In a crisis moment Moses made a decision based only on man-consciousness. He forgot his accountability to God. He became more devoted to a need than to God. He needed a deeper awareness of God"s presence.
Moses learned that every decision is vitally important. And that focusing on what God wants us to do is of paramount importance. It"s not enough to know God"s will, to be where God wants us to be, to be well-prepared to do what He has called us to do, or to be motivated by love to meet a real need. Those are important and essential, but if we forget to cultivate a sense of God"s presence, to recognize His authority and control over our every act, then failure is just around the corner. And can you imagine how long it would have taken Moses to overthrow Egypt by killing Egyptians and burying them in the sand? He"d still be there. God"s plans are so much better than ours will ever be.
So remember. Next time you have a decision to make: "The eyes of the Lord are in every place beholding the evil and the good. Be sure the decision you make is the one that pleases the sovereign Lord of the universe.
So remember. Next time you have a decision to make: "The eyes of the Lord are in every place beholding the evil and the good. Be sure the decision you make is the one that pleases the sovereign Lord of the universe.
Yes, Amen Dave! Thanks
