There was an article in a church paper entitled, "32,850 Sermons Later." It started off with a letter printed in the British Weekly from one of their English readers. The British letter went like this:
"Dear Sir,
'It seems ministers feel their sermons are very important and spend a great deal of time preparing them. I have been attending a church quite regularly for the past 30 years, and I have probably heard 3,000 of them. To my consternation, I discovered that I cannot remember a single sermon. I wonder if a minister's time might be more profitably spent on something else?
"Sincerely...."
For weeks a real storm of editorial responses ensued. The uproar finally was ended by this letter:
"Dear Sir:
"I have been married for 30 years. During that time I have eaten 32,850 meals-mostly of my wife's cooking. Suddenly, I have discovered that I cannot remember the menu of a single meal. And yet, I have received nourishment from every single one of them. I have the distinct impression that without them. I would have starved to death long ago.
"Sincerely...."

Bro.Mac, I can go to my bible and check any semon that the pastor has given over the years, by dates. I have always read word for word what he is preaching from the bible and make notes and date same. How else is one to know if he is reallypreaching the word, if you don't follow his preaching?
I see some sittingin the pews without a bible and wonder how can they tell if they are really hearing the Word? You ask them two days later the Book, Chapter and Verse of the sermon and they can't remember!

And some seeds fell on good ground, but some fell by the way side.., so who then is most responsible, the one scattering the seed, or the one receiving it? Bob<>< I am out just sowing seed....
Brother Hog I am going to make the assumption that your pastor gives you all a heads up on the upcoming sermon ahead of time to allow one to study up on the sermon. All pastors should do that, like you, I have found over the years that if you know ahead of time what the sermon is covering and you take the time to study the scriptures you gain much more from the message.

Yes brother Taz, when he is about to finish the Sunday morning service and before the invitational, he tells us what he will cover in the evening service. Same for the evening service, he tells us whathe will be covering Wednesday night.
For every verse he preaches, he stops and explains the verse. Man he is a Hell Fire preacher and will tell the congregation the truth, even if you don't like it or he steps on anyones toes! He's been there 15yrs and I have seen many people go cause they don't like to hear the truth!

Thanks Bro Mac, some good thoughts that I shared with the church yesterday.
As for as giving the church advance notice as for the text and outline for the next weeks sermon, I just can't do that as I don't know that far in advance myself. Very seldom do I have the leading from the Lord that far ahead of time. I like my messages the same way I like my natural meals, fresh and made from scratch.
