1Jo 3:9 Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God.
1Jo 3:10 In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of God, neither he that loveth not his brother.

Bro Mac; Not an opinion, just a couple more scriptures to look at along with those already quoted.
Romans 7:7 What shall we say then? Is the law sin? God forbid. Nay, I had not known sin, but by the law: for I had not known lust, except the law had said, Thou shalt not covet.
Romans 7:12 Wherefore the law is holy, and the commandment holy, and just, and good.

Leaf excellent overall post, and you are quite right with some of the discussions we have been having lately that those verses would "stimulate opinions". The one I quoted above should bring forth some interesting opinions on the law vs "The Law".

Gen.6:5-7

[5] And GOD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.
[6] And it repented the LORD that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart.
[7] And the LORD said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man, and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air; for it repenteth me that I have made them.

I have some thoughts on the scripture you've offered.

The first is that it's an awesome privilege that a sinner like me could even be called a "friend" of God, much less a son. What love.

We can know, that though we're still constrained by this fleshly body we have, that one day we'll be pure and righteous.

Sin, sadly, is still a problem for us, but if we keep the hope in our hearts, sin will not overcome us. Jesus's life and death take care of that.

We will know those who "pretend" at being christians by the fruit they bear.
