Default My experience with tongues

Dear friends,
I feel alot of joy at this moment and would like to share my experience with tongues. I decided to follow Jesus whole heartedly in October of 1976. I was so worried about backsliding I stayed in my New Testament whenever i got a spare moment. I was stationed a t Fort Stewart ,GA at this time. Our barricks were just a big long concrete block building. We each had a little10' x10' area that we shared with one buddy. After 5:00 PM we were mostly on our own. While everyone else was doing their own thing {Mostly getting drunk} I would get out an army hymnal and sing unto the Lord.

One evening I felt very uneasy as five black men stood about 7' from me jeering and sayin glook at that God*&(& fool. I was used to that and was not afraid. But ..I felt something coming on. I stopped playing and went to my best friend Edgar. I told him I felt very strange in my area. He told me to go back and just ignor it. I did. They were still jeering very loud. In my heart the Spirit said ,"Keep on playing for me son." All of a sudden a light like a flash that wouldn't go away came between me and the men. I looked back down at the music.

Then something in my mind said."That doesn't belong there." I looked up and the bright light was still there. I pushed my guitar aside and fell straight to my knees. I knew it was the Lord. The experience electrofied every part of my inner being. I wanted to praise Him but did not have the words. So I opened my mouthand loudly with tears spoke in a language of tongues. This silenced the mockers greatly. I was very humbled and will never forget that experience.

Chris ,
Thanks brother. I will say I've heard LOT's of speaking in tongues. This one was unique from all the others. It honestly sounded like a language for sure.and I never spoke like that ever again.

I think we sometimes confuse tongues with Romans 9: 26 Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weakness. for we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered...

Thanks for the encouragement all. I must say I miss those early days when it seemed I had much more faith.

I heard a great word Sunday in church. The preacher loves God and has a way of preraching a challenging message that draws you closer to God instead of turning you off. The part that challenged me was this.

" There are alot of things that hinder our prayer life with God," When something occupies our time so much that it robs our time from God..then that something no matter if it's harmless becomes sin."Even spending alot of time on line." I was convicted greatly and tried to spend less time today on line.

Hebrews12:1 Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,
