Been watching a show called "Grizzly Man" on Discovery. You all may remember the guy, Tim Treadwell from his story back in 2003. It seems this guy lived among the Grizzlies in alaska....although I'd think those were Browns....anyway, for 13 years he lived each summer with them, up close. AsI watched the show, I was sad to hear his story. It seems he had some troubles in life, and for whatever reason he became an alcoholic. He seemed to find meaning in protecting the bears ( yeah he was an animal rights wacko) and supposedly that meaning caused him to quit drinking. I was sad because on one hand, he claimed to not to know if there was a God or not. Then later on in the show, he's cursing God, demanding rain so the salmon would run and the bears would have food. In the end, he and his girlfriend got ate by an old hungry bear that couldn't find food on it's own.The thing that jumped out at me was that he could marvel at the complexities of nature, yet he would deny that God created it. For one who knows nature, the simple things that happen like sows eating their cubs in poor food years, makes perfect sense. For an idealist who sees the animals as on the same level as people, it seems like murder.
Sad.

I watched it also. I was sickened by the scene where he states that if there is a God he would be proud of him for all his good works? Even the environmontalists interviewed said he did more harm than good to the bears. ........dabow
I was pretty much in shock the whole show. I think my chin was in my lap theentire time. I CAN'T BELIEVE that someone is that wacko. I felt sorry for him. He was a lost man, and didn't know God, but that doesn't meanit was ok for him to do what he did.It made my stomach hurt when he was screaming and cursingat God. The whole movie was really sickening. It broke my heart to see another man spiral downward like that. That's why I don't watch t.v. much I guess.Anyway, I could ramble about this all night, I'll just say I was sorry to see someone in his spiritual state.
IMO- I think he hurt the wildlife in that area more than he helped them. His friends kept saying he was "studying" the bears. I never saw or heard any research being done. He was only "living" with them, which disrupts their normal behavior. I think acclimation to humans is detrimental to them, not helping them. In all seriousness, the poor guy needed some psychological evaluation. It's sad to see someone like that.

I only saw the previews of the show and that alone was enough to stop me from watching it, from what you all are saying he was sadly lost from both God and reality.

I saw it and I don't want to say he go what he deserved, but he was throughly against nature.. man cannot co-exit with man eaters!! Just fact, as far as denying God, most of those PETA, Tree huggers, and the like do not acknowledge God..... If he would have been walking in the spirit in stead of walking in the flesh, he would still be walking in the spirit and the flesh..( OUCH)
I planned on watching the movie Saturday night but fell asleep partway through it so I tried to watch it again on Sunday night but fell asleep again. For me anyways, I guess it was not exactly riveting entertainment. From what I did see, it is my opinion that Timothy Treadwell was suffering from mental illness. He was, particularly for someone who spent so much time inthe wild, in total denial about the realities of nature. He did notcomprehend that sometimes animals kill other animals and sometimes the rain dosn't fall when you want it to.
In regard to hunting, he claimed he was there to protect the bears from hunters but even possessing a weapon, let alone bear hunting, is strictly prohibited in the Katmai Wildlife Refuge. His own behavior of trying to habituate bears to the presence of humans would have put these bears at a disadvantage if they did move to an area where hunting wasallowed.
His irrational behavior, such as denyng Grizzly bears can be dangerous, might have made sense to him in his delusional statebut I can not understand how his family and friends could have let this go on for 13 years without doing something to put a stop to it. Timothy Treadwell should have been in a lockedPsychiatric ward, not cavorting with bears in Alaska. I am sure committing him would have been unpopular with civil libiterians but it would have been the only thing that could have prevented this tragedy.
Well said Caldoc. I always thought it was kind of funny that the anti's mostly believe in evolution and such. Therefore assuming that, we are animals. Animals eatother animals in nature but they won't give us the same right. Ok I'm dumb but it made since to me.
