Default Our Arrows (our children)

What do you think of when you hear the words "bow and arrow"? Willian Tell? Robin Hood? Cupid? I picture an Olympic archer bearing down on a target with highly trained precision. Amazing that a person can spend a lifetime perfecting something so simple. Have you ever thought of your children as arrows? I've considered my "arrows" and quickly realized that they can be used for good or harmful purposes, depending on who is aiming them. Dr James Dobson has communicated numerous times in his books and radio programs that boys who grow up in unloving, fatherless homes are more likely to be involved in violent crime as adults. These young men are like arrows fired indiscriminately into the air- misaimed and directionless. Without the guidance of a skilled "archer" (that's you!) the damage they can do to themselves and others is horrible to imagine. I thank God for the Holy Spirit, who gives me the skill to aim and direct my two young "arrows" as they grow and learn. It's my job to point them toward the "target"-the purpose for which God ultimately created them. And every once in a while, I must carefully inspect and correct the minute flaws that may seem insignificant but could cause my boys to veer off course. In Rome during Jesus' life, archery competitions were common. A judge would stand over the shoulder of the archer as he fired his arrow. It's been said that if the archer missed, the judge would shout a dreadful word: "Hamartia!" Translation: "You sinned (missed the mark)." Parents, let's not commit the sin of allowing our arrows to fly off wherever they may. With God's help, aim those arrows at the target-and hit the bull's-eye.

It helps to have a smaller quiver since we are commanded to "keep our quivers full!"

Carol,
I plan to reread this later in the quietness of my home. Keep this stuff coming. I need it and maybe others do too.

If I may answer for bro.Dave?

PSS.127:4,5
[4] As arrows are in the hand of a mighty man; so are children of the youth.
[5] Happy is the man that hath his quiver full of them: they shall not be ashamed, but they shall speak with the enemies in the gate.

Psalm 127:4-5 (NIV)

4 Like arrows in the hands of a warrior
are sons born in one's youth.

5 Blessed is the man
whose quiver is full of them.
They will not be put to shame
when they contend with their enemies in the gate.

I still don't read where it commands us to keep our quiver full.

Thanks
