Default Why are you all so hung up on the END?

That is all I seem to read here, the end of times, Revalation, AntiChrist...doesn't anybody care about the world they live in now?

How about feeding the hungry?

Healing the sick?

Ending the wars?

I am not overly religious, but I was raised Catholic. Our parish preists were pretty big on being active in the community. Volunteering at the homeless sheleters, community service, food drives, etc. etc. etc. I don't see much of that here, seems to be lots of debate of who will be the one to reap destruction on the world. Lots about dying a good death, but I sure don't read much here about living a good life.

Is it because most you are born-again and you all believe that "once you are saved you are always saved" so there is no onus to go forth and try to make a difference? If that is true, how do you make out Jesus's commandment to "Love they neighbor as you would love yourself"

Just curious why the emphasis here is where it is. Not trying to slander your beliefs.

Good observation Al. There are some great folks on this site, and there are many that love the drama of debate. There are several different beliefs in here and they all like to hack it out. But I must say, gotten to know a few of them and they are awesome guys. There is a lot of wisdom in this place. You just have to decipher it out sometimes. Maybe you have opened some eyes in here.

Like Jesus said my friend."You have the poor with you always." These folks on herehave proven time after time there willingness to give. They give over and beyond. Nothing wrong with studying the Bible and I think we have none a great time not bashing one another.I'm very proud of each and everyone of these my brothers. Goose has caused me to read more scriptures than I have all month. And I'm serious.
Thanks Goose,
Chuck7

AL, I just got back from church and on Wednesday Services we have Food Bank for the needy. All week we are visiting the Food Chains in the area and collecting donated can goods, bottled drinks, boxed goods and anything else they give us to give out on Wednesday night to the needy.
We have Wonder Bread Bakery in the area and they also donate breads and pastries as well. We have a Meat packer that once a month they donate a couple hundred pounds of mixed Chicken, Pork and Beefand have a big cook off for thefolks who can never afford to go out with their familiesto eat.
We also have astoreroom with used refrigs, stoves and heaters for the needy. We also have a usedclothes bank which have been donated for the needy.
We are a country folk church and we have many families in the area that don't go to church at all, but they know that we are there to help themat any time they are in need.
It takes many hours of time and members to be able to help preform these good deeds.

EDIT: I must say that Publix is the most generous of all! Their managers have the biggest hearts when it's time to give!

Alaska you sound as if your stuck to this world and the cares of it. Bad place to be. The Bible clearly warnes us not to be so stuck to it. Point your thoughts on God, and watch, and don't be foolish, for the coming. All the gospels point to this. I highly suggest you study them. I have listened and read them so much in the past 4 months. And I can't believe it, I find something new and exciting every time I read them or listen to them. I think I have it down, and bam, something new is revealed. This is going to take a lifetime.

You focus your love on God first, and the feeding the hungry, donating food, hleping out the community, having a giving heart, that will automatically come with the Holy Spirit. As Paul explains to anyway, be excited to put on your Spiritual bodies. I mean look at Katrina. If it wasn't for theChurches, FEMA admitsit would have been really bad. So many people were housed, fed, and clothed in those Churches. I would bet more helpwas given by them than FEMA and the rest.

I just don't believe its good for us to sit here and try to put out what we do here and there. We should give with anonomity. Not for praise of man or internet folks. But should help people focus thier praise on God. Rest will come.

AMEN Big Country!!!

I'llbet that these guys are involved with the community where they live. I know for sure a bunch are involved in local ministries, and serving. Sometimes we get on the deep stuff, but that's alright. I won't hurt anyone to learn aboutdifferent views on the Holy Scriptures.

I'll see if a post on good local ministries will go, I'm sure it would!

We could just give our expirence with a local ministry, how it serves, and how wemay havegrown closer to Godfrom it. How's that sound?

I'll look for ward to everyone's replies! Esp. yours Alaska Magnum, you started a great idea!

Thanks,
Trae

Alaska, I am fairly new, and still on the milk. So anytime you want to discuss something, believe me, I am still an extreme novice that likes to still go on new stuff. In other words, I can't keep up with Alex the Hawk, or Chuck7, or any of these guys. I jump in when I can and have grown due to these guys so far in short time. They talk deep stuff, but we can talk about anything on here.

Perhaps Alaskamagnumit is because we all feel it is about there, the end is at hand.

Are you ready, have you given your heart and soul to God ?, have you accepted the payment he made for you ?

If not do it tonight, maybe tomorrow might be too late.

"For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son, that whosoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting Life" Jhn 3;16

As far as giving to the poor and the Hungry, here is what we do in The Miami Area.

http://factfl.org/CommProServ/CPS-BasicNeeds/451.aspx

And CBN wrote about my Church the Following:

Now Let us see what you do for the poor and the Homeless ?

As James said, Show me Your faith By your works and I will show you my works by my faith, Shalom

Deut.15:7-11

[7] If there be among you a poor man of one of thy brethren within any of thy gates in thy land which the LORD thy God giveth thee, thou shalt not harden thine heart, nor shut thine hand from thy poor brother:
[8] But thou shalt open thine hand wide unto him, and shalt surely lend him sufficient for his need, in that which he wanteth.
[9] Beware that there be not a thought in thy wicked heart, saying, The seventh year, the year of release, is at hand; and thine eye be evil against thy poor brother, and thou givest him nought; and he cry unto the LORD against thee, and it be sin unto thee.
[10] Thou shalt surely give him, and thine heart shall not be grieved when thou givest unto him: because that for this thing the LORD thy God shall bless thee in all thy works, and in all that thou puttest thine hand unto.
[11] For the poor shall never cease out of the land: therefore I command thee, saying, Thou shalt open thine hand wide unto thy brother, to thy poor, and to thy needy, in thy land.
