As I surfed several different hunting web site forums during the past week I took a keen interest in the Jimmy Houston fiasco. It raised my hackles several different ways.
1. I was disgusted that anyone would even think of hunting in the manner depicted in the infamous video.
2. The manner in which Jimmy and his wife explained his actions in their public letters. Especially Christine Houston who seemed to use Jimmy's christian faith and works as some type of balancing scale where his good works still out weighed his bad so that made it ok.
3. The way all the forum junkies rallied and organized to form boycotts and petitions etc. to teach ole Jimmy a lesson. I am not saying Jimmy don't deserve some or all of it. It just made me sit and wonder if we could just get all the lynch mobs to rally around a more noble cause. For example if we started petitions and sent letters to sponsors of the network tv programs that promote violence, lust, sex, nudity etc. How about all the wolves in priests clothing using their church work to molest children while their church covers for them. Now theres a group that should really be lynched, but where is the public outcry. I realize that many of the guys protesting Jimmy may not be christian and some may be christians that are involved in worthy protests. I guess the whole Jimmy Houston situation is a sad indictment on society as a whole and hunters as a faction of that society that can smell blood a mile away.......especially if it is a professing born again christian..............dabow
I think alot of these guys were very sheltered. I think a majority of us hunters knows that these fishing and hunting shows are mostly canned. These guys acted like they just heard about it. Kinda like when I was a kid and finally found out wrestling was fake.
I have fished BASS tournaments were Jimmy Houston was fishing in, and he never impressed me. In fact I've caught fish behind him, and made sure he saw me kiss them before putting them in my live well .. We could all make a good fishing show to fish the tanks and ponds he fishes. Heck that goes for most of the hunting shows as well... It's all about sponsors andguides wanting to advertise their products.
But to get back to your point Dabow I agree. I'm glad I wasn't hung out to dry with every mistake I have made. I can't think of any hunting show that I like. Matter of fact they really make me sick. They are nothing like what goes on in my woods. As for you question about the priest child molesters I'm with you on that. Where are the lynch mobs and public outcry? There are bigger stories about animal abuse on the news than a priest that ruins some kids life. A crazy place we live in for sure.

Sadly it just shows how childish and outright RUDE the rank and file hunting and fishing population is.
I am NOT trying to defend what Mr. Houston did, but the way this has all been handled is just REDICULOUS. Why didn't these same dimwits raise hell and demand change when Bill Clinton was impeached but not thrown from office? I use that example as an indictment on the very people who want to clamor on about the greatness of our sport yet when one of our own (and most visible, longterm voices) slips up they want to fire up the coals and BBQ the guy for making a human mistake.
I am embarassed by the actions of many with regards too this situation! [:'(]
