I know that pride is a sin. What if you want to do well in life do better then what you grew up in. Isnt that pride? I want to do well in life isnt happening for me. There are so many questionable things like that. I know we should devote about everything towards God, but this day in age. we need to make a living. we have to do well in school so that we can get a good job to support ourselves.

Well, we are going to sin. And worrying about the future is sinning. Jesus layes it out for us pretty clear in Matthew. Don't worry about where you are going to get your next meal or what you are going to wear, and goes on to explain the birds don't worry about it but the Father takes care of them and arn't we considered more valuable to the father than them? I am not sure but I beleive what he is saying, is first worry about getting into Heaven and pleasing God, and the rest will fall into place. I don't think it means we have to be a beggar.
for instance, some friends of mine at the church was trying to sell thier house. It was on the market for over 3 months. They lowered thier price several times. They prayed intently for God to send someone to buy thier house. Finally they changed thier praying. They started praying to know God's will, and if it doesn't sell in a few days, they know his will is for them to stay there and they don' need a house. Next day a buyer came and gave them what they asked for and even gave them several other options like time to find a new house and the whole bit. I think God just wants us to submit to be patient for his time. And he will pick our places to be. Too often we seek our will and not his. I am guilty number one and probably the worse.
IMO wanting to excel in life is not prideful, nor is wanting to do the best job you can do, the following are a few examples of what I would consider sinful pride:
1. Feeling that speaking to a homeless person is beneath you.
2. Refusing to admit you are wrong.
3. Never saying you are sorry.
4. Feeling that certain jobs or task are beneath you.
5. Boasting about how great you are.
6. Telling people that youropinion on something is right and theirs is wrong even though the topic is wide open to differing opinions.
I hope you get where I am coming from by the examples above. BTW we are all guilty of pride on certain things.

I see what you are saying bigcountry. My degree (mechanical engineering technology) I like what am doing, but I struggle so much. Failed a few classes. Partly because I am no good at taking test.

degree, so will the guy that is thatfinishes at the bottom of the class, just like doctors, lawyers, etc.... when their finished they are still called doctor, lawyer engineer.....etc.... you are putting wayyyy too much pressure on yourself, do the BEST you can and leave the rest to God, i assure you it will all work out
best of luck, BTW are you sure you have done everything you can to improve your situation, if not get to work, very few people put 100% into everything they do, ever heard the saying "ah thats good enough" is it? i think you are a lot smarter than you let on, the biggest problem is very few people ever apply all they can, take a self inventory, cut here and improve in another area, any sacrifice you make now will be greatly rewarded in the future, you'll have a wonderful wife, a great family, a good job, places to hunt and fish, the only one limiting the outcome is you

It is our attitude at the beginning of a difficult task which, more than anything else, will affect its successful outcome.

Just keep God first in your life, He wants you to be a success also, just because we are christian don't me we need to be down and out, Our God that made us wants us to do good, just keep Him first in your life, and justbe yourself, you can't be anyone else.

Wanting to do well and be successful isn't sinful. God EXPECTS us to do our very best in all our endeavors. Doing less than your best is disobedient. Pride can result from how you deal with any wealth that God provides -- remember it's all HIS anyway. Refusal to help those less fortunate, looking down on others, etc. are sinful practices than can result, but you're not wrong to do as well as you can as long as you don't let it consume you and lessen your devotion to God.

What if I look at someone say that is confined to a wheel chair. I dont think I am really better then that person. I just thank God that he has given me the ability to walk. What about say your family owns alot of land to where you can hunt. Do I think am better then people that dont have their own land to hunt. No I dont. I feel that am blessed that I do have this land to hunt. Yes these could be pride on how you treat it right?

DH, I have this book about Humility. We went thru it in a group all summer. It really opened my eyes. Humility seems key to holyness and close walk with God. Its so tough to deny oneself. Its ingrained in us to be selfish.
I mean lets say you do something really great for someone annonomously, but then you walk down the road feeling good about yourself, telling yourself you a great person. You blew it. You did it for God. I know I am worse than most people. But hey I have hope.

Your right Bro... Humility is a bummer for most of us... The only way I can explain is, it's like doing something great, and watching someone else take credit for it, and not saying a word... It's hard, but it's obedience. I have a hard time with that one too...
