Just thought I would add that I'm not looking for church rules and regulations here. I'm just looking for what the root of your faith is founded on. Or does anybody believe that a foundation is necessary? (Some recent threads and comments and that fact that Mac and I are building a shed to replace the one Katrina tore up are what prompted this question.)

Independent Baptist
We believe that the Holy Bible (the sixty-six books of the Old and New Testaments) was written by men who were supernaturally inspired; that it is truth without any mixture of error and therefore is, and shall remain the only complete and to the end of the age, final revelation of the will of God. We believe that God has divinely preserved His Word in the Authorized King James Version of the Bible. II Timothy 3:16-17; II Peter 1:19-21; Psalm 19:7-11; Psalm 12:6-7; Psalm 119:140.

I have built my faith on the foundationfrom the Word (Jesus). It my faith has been framed by the word of God. I have been covered by the Blood of the Lamb. I let the light shine so others can see it.. and I dwell in His house all the days of my life.

Leaf River Liz, interesting that you should bring this up, I was pondering this very thing yesterday.

My foundation is on bed rock.

I do my best to dig down through the layers of sand to reach that bed rock.

The sand is anyfalse/incompleteunderstandings and false/incomplete teachings/doctrinesof scripture.

Thanks
Mr-Pirk

Mr. Pirk, that is exactly what I wanted to lead up to. In the 6th chapter of Luke it talks about how important it is to lay a foundation on rock:

Luk 6:47 Whosoever cometh to me, and heareth my sayings, and doeth them, I will shew you to whom he is like:
Luk 6:48 He is like a man which built an house, and digged deep, and laid the foundation on a rock: and when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently upon that house, and could not shake it: for it was founded upon a rock.

If we don't do this, then everything that is built on that foundation has been built in vain.

1Co 3:11 For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ.

Jesus Christ is my foundation. Jesus Christ is my rock.

1Co 10:4 And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ.

When Mac and I layed the slab for our shed, we took certain steps to make sure that the form for our foundation was level and square because if we get off just a little bit at the start of it then by the time we are finishing the project we will be way off.
What is the use of spending time, effort, and money to build something that doesn't fit together rightly and won't hold up to a storm?

If the foundation is not right, the rest of it is not right. This is why I do not waste much of my time trying to pick apart beliefs that the JW have. To me that belief is twisted because it does not have a sure foundation. My Christ is not the same christ that they have. The JW's christ was an archangel. My Christ was not. The JW's christ is a lesser god. My Christ is not. It does not matter then, if they can argue well or are well versed in their version of the bible. Their foundation is not correctly laid. It is moot and pointless.

Joh 10:1 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that entereth not by the door into the sheepfold, but climbeth up some other way, the same is a thief and a robber.

Joh 10:9 I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture.

I don't feel that I am bashing. I'm just giving my point of view on this.
