Default Insights on Lent?

I know little about it. Is it a Catholic tradition? Is it Biblical?

Jim ,
I'm not sure where it originated from. I do like the idea. However most Christians practice self-denial weekly. WE are instructed daily to take up our cross. Many Chrisitans I know practice fasting weekly. It's a very wise thing to do.

Thanks Reb. Great and informative link!

I've given thing up for lent before. I remember a sermon from childhood touting lent as a good thing. Since then, I've given something up almost each year.I just really hadn't thought much about it's origins until recently. I may do it again, although my diet is pretty rigid. I've given up a lot of foods that I enjoy for good.

Just a tip to all: I gave up caffiene for lent one year. If you do so, be ready for a headache that will last a few days!!

P.S. Could you give up HNI for lent?[8D]

OOOOOOHHH have I got an idea!!! For the entire period of lent, how about only posting 1.)praise reports, 2.) "Amens" and other affirmations, 3.) positive thoughts. 4) verses of the day type posts on the HNI religion forum???

No debates, arguments, or fights. Not even a discussion of interpretation or "what this verse means to me..."
