Default lusting

The bible says lusting is wrong. When you say lusting most people will think of sexual desire for someone. What about lusting for power? You are walking down the side walk you see a good looking woman. You say to yourself thats a good looking woman. Have you lusted you are just amiring her beaty. Thats all you do. Looking at porn or a maxim maganize is that lust. The porn I can see as lusting because they are naked. A maxim maganize you are amiring their beauty. At what point is it considered lusting?

Matthew 5:28, "But I say, anyone who even looks at a woman with lust in his eye has already committed adultery with her in his heart."
Lust is a focus on pleasing oneself, and often leads to unwholesome actions to fulfill one's desires with no regard to the consequences. Lust is about possession and greed.

DH The best advice was given you yesterday from Snooky. Stop straddling teh fence....and if you can't help it my friend. Get alone with God and ask him to take away the love of the world from your heart. Some of us have to pray that prayer alot. The apostles along with Christ Jesus reminded us / commanded us to crucify our desires daily. THIS is the cross we are to bare my friend.

And it all starts with having our mind renewed DAILY by the Word of God. I reply because I care about ya DH..Here are a couple of verses to consider. By the way ....I also reply because you remind me of me when I was seeking .

Romans112:1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.
12:2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

1JOhn2:15 Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.

2:16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.

2:17 And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.

2 Corinthians 6:14 Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?

6:15 And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel?

6:16 And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.

6:17 Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you.

6:18 And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.

God bless DH and you will be prayed for all day by many of us.

Men are attracted to women and women are attracted to men -- that's ordered by God.

HOWyou respond to that attraction is where you may fall into trouble. I heard a pastor once say that sexual sin is taking a God-given thing and using it in a God-forbidden way.

So it is with lust. Admiring a beautiful woman is natural. Thinking about having her sexually and desiring for that to take place -- or for that matter, knowing in your mind that you would if given the chance -- is sin.

deerhunter the lusting for a woman I beleive has been covered, but you asked about lusting for power and the like also. Let us look at the definition of it:
Quote:
Main Entry: 1lust
Pronunciation: 'l&st
Function: noun
Etymology: Middle English, from Old English; akin to Old High German lust pleasure and perhaps to Latin lascivus wanton
1 obsolete a : PLEASURE, DELIGHT b : personal inclination : WISH
2 : usually intense or unbridled sexual desire : LASCIVIOUSNESS
3 a : an intense longing : CRAVING b : ENTHUSIASM, EAGERNESS
Now this is just my opinion, but lust for what ever is a sin, it is one thing to earn a promotion, it is another thing (lust) when you sit around scheming of ways to get a promotion via a means other then hard work, examples would be back stabbing and brown nosing. Lust to me is a step beyond coveting. When one covets something, they are jealous and want something they do not have, to lust for it is a step beyond where you imagine ways to actually gain what you covet, and this does not apply just to a woman.
