I prefer to call God by His favorite name.....Father
I first wondered how it is determined that "Father" was God's favorite? Was it recorded in scripture somewhere? I then asked myself why one would even concider the word "father" to be a name rather that showing a relationship to another being? On my birth certificate, I have three names, two were given, and one is the family name. Everyone born in that family has the same family name. Hebrews tells us that the Son obtained his name by inheritance. Jesus also said that, "I come in my Fathers Name and you received me not". That the Father has a 'Name" is plainly seen in the Lord's pray, "Hallowed be thy Name". The angels said to call his name Jesus. Phil 2:9 says the Son was given a name that is above every name that is named. Eph 3:15 declares that the name given to the Christ Child was the name by which the whole family in heaven and earth is named.
Is the heavenly family named "Father"? Or does Father signify the one who sired or caused another to have life? Does it define a relationship in reqards to the Son? The Son was the result of The Holy Ghost overshadowing Mary. Therefore The Holy Ghost must be the "Father". If we find the Name of the Father, we have then found the Name of The Holy Ghost, by means of the relationship to the Son. If we find the Name of The Son, we have found the Name of The Father as The Son inherited his Name from his Father. It is the only name under heaver, given among men where by one can be saved.
So if one is to fulfill the commandment given in Matt 28:19, and baptizes in the Name of The Father, what name will he use? Since "Father", is not a name, but rather a relationship, isn't a name nessary? One is then commanded to use a name that also applies to The Son. Wouldn't the name that he inherited as the family name be the name of choice? Then a name is needed for The Holy Ghost. Isn't the Holy Ghost the one who caused conception in the womb of Mary? That means that the name of The Father and The Holy Ghost are the same name. The bible teaches to do every thing in word and deed, in the name of Jesus. Isn't baptism both word, and deed? Did Peter make a mistake when he told the Jews and proselytes from every nation under heaven, repent and be baptized everyone of you in the name of Jesus Christ? Luke 24:45 says that the Lord opened their understanding that they might understand the scriptures. V:47 Jesus declares that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his Name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.
Is it possible to baptize someone in a name and never speak that name?
If the power is in that name to give, or bringsalvation, can one substitute a title showing relationship instead of using the name?
Does the act of going into the water cleanse, or remit sin, or is it through the use of the only name given among men whereby we are saved that sins are remitted?
Acts 22:16 Arise and be baptized, washing away thy sins, calling on The Name of The Lord. What is Thy Name Lord? I am Jesus whom thou persecutest.
John baptized converts saying that they should believe on the one who was to come after him. Paul re-baptized John's converty in the name of Jesus Christ. Acts chapter 19.
If calling on the name of The Lord Jesus isn't the fulfilling of the commandment of Matt 28:19, where is a scriptural reference of it ever being fulfilled.
Father, dad, mother, mom, grandma, grandpa....they are names as well as titles. They insinuate relationship, they also show respect and affection. Nicknames are often added to people and not found on birth certificates. My nieces call me "Uncle Bear", to them it is my name.
When the disciples asked Christ how they should pray, what did he say? Matthew 6:9-13 is the "Lord's Prayer", how does it open? "Our Father in heaven". God's proper name is whatever He chooses it to be. Christ refers to the "Father" multiple times. Five times in Matthew alone. Twenty one times in John. In Luke 23:34, Christ addresses the Father from the cross saying "Father forgive them, they know not what they do". Romans 8:15-16 says "And by him we cry, "Abba, Father". The Spirit testifies with our spirit that we are God's children." Christ is the son of God, therefore he rightfully addresses his father as Father, Daddy, or Dad. We are likewise children of God, how should we address our father? Just as Christ did.

You are Politically and theologically Correct Snooky.
It is only here in the west we querstion things like that.
A name is of great significance in The Hebrew idiocincracy, God's name is holy so holy is considered by Jews it has not being pronounced for millenials, Then He has his titles which all in hebrew carry his name, some confuse it and think there are many gods, but he has one holy name by Which He can be called.
Shalom

Ought Six. I don't think you would get very far in life with your, "anything = a name" theory. Snooky is a nickname given by my Grandmother. If I write you a thousand dollar check and sign it simply as Snooky, you have a worthless peice of paper. My name isn't on it. Any business deal has to have a "legal" name to make it valid. A term we hear often is "the Man upstairs". If your theory is correct, Do you pray in that phrase, baptize in that phrase, perform any biblical duty or command in that phrase? Is there salvation in any other name other than the Name of Jesus? I find it hard to think anyone would really believe that God would be so hap-hazard in his dealings with man. But there are many things that Shock me. Just heard yesterday about a local person who is writting and selling sermons to pastors who are too busy to get their owm sermon.
