One of the main things I come here for is to gain knowledge.
I feel very blessed to have access to the assets on this board.
There is a tremendous amount of talent to be tapped into.
The manner in which this knowledge/talent is managed is too often haphazard.
I once made the remark to a friend of mine on this board that it was becoming less and less of a place for me to learn from. I was giving serous thought to finding a different message board to study from.
Not because I felt I was to smart for this group, but just the opposite. Most everyone here is ahead of me in understanding scripture, yet the haphazard manner in which knowledge is dispersed leaves a lot to be desired.
I have a real habit of thinking outside the box; I have worked very hard at developing that talent. Normally it is a real asset. When it comes to understanding scripture it can be a hindrance.
Which brings me to the second thing I find most useful about this board, it helps to keep my "śthinking outside the box"ť reined in, it helps in keeping me on the straight and narrow path.
I am not sure how everyone else goes about organizing their bible study, but this is how I do it.
I start with the very first scripture in the bible and make my way to the last. I am working on trip 8 or 9 through the bible currently, I have lost count.
If there happens to be a thread going that address"™ where I am in my re-reading of the bible I try to offer comment.
If in my re-reading I come-up with an understanding I had not seen before, I will start a thread.
A lot of threads I don"™t comment on (but would like to), because I don"™t want to get side-tracked from where ever I happen to be in my re-read.
This brings me to my proposal.
What are your thoughts on having a formal study of the bible?
I am suggesting that someone pick a place to start, Genesis or maybe Isaiah? (I say Isaiah mostly because that is where I currently am in my re-read) Then everyone can start at the same location and make better use of the talent on this board.
Your thoughts?
Thanks
Mr-Pirk

Sounds interesting Mark . . .tho you would see that some of us don't know as much as others may think. And visa versa. I've noticed that some have gifts of knowledge in certain areas.

1. Isaiah. 1:4 - Here Isaiah states that the LORD is the HOLY One of Israel. In the New Testament Jesus is known as the Holy One of Israel. This term is used over fifty times in the bible. Never once was the term Holy Two or Holy Three ever used.

I'm worried about weither or not we can do without having a verse-by-verse arguement on the meaning and intent of every passage in the Bible. (I know it wouldn't be quite that bad but it may get close) Lord knows I have trouble enough spectating the arguements that already arise.

Hey, I say go for it, and just see how far we can get...I am sure there are even some here that will not even agree on John 3:16. After all most ofus were taughtevolution in school, but didn't agree with it. I say go for it,,, I am in.
8 Isaiah continues his message with strong words for the nation of Judah: "Woetothesinfulnation,thepeopleheavywitherror,anevildoingseed,ruinoussons!TheyhaveleftJehovah,theyhavetreatedtheHolyOneofIsraelwithdisrespect,theyhaveturnedbackwards."(Isaiah1:4) Wicked deeds can accumulate to the extent that they become like a crushing weight. In Abraham"™s day Jehovah described the sins of Sodom and Gomorrah as "very heavy." (Genesis 18:20) Something similar is now evident in the people of Judah, for Isaiah says that they are "heavy with error." In addition, he calls them "an evildoing seed, ruinous sons." Yes, the Judeans are like delinquent children. They have "turned backwards," or as the NewRevisedStandardVersion puts it, they are "utterly estranged" from their Father.
9 By their wayward course, the people of Judah are showing gross disrespect for "the Holy One of Israel." What is the significance of this phrase, which is found 25 times in the book of Isaiah? To be holy means to be clean and pure. Jehovah is holy to the superlative degree. (Revelation 4:8) The Israelites are reminded of this fact every time they observe the words engraved on the shining gold plate on the high priest"™s turban: "Holiness belongs to Jehovah." (Exodus 39:30) Hence, by referring to Jehovah as "the Holy One of Israel," Isaiah underscores the gravity of Judah"™s sin. Why, these rebels are directly violating the command given to their forefathers: "You must sanctify yourselves and you must prove yourselves holy, because I am holy"!"”Leviticus 11:44.
10 Christians today must at all costs avoid following Judah"™s example of disrespecting "the Holy One of Israel." They must imitate Jehovah"™s holiness. (1 Peter 1:15, 16) And they need to "hate what is bad." (Psalm 97:10) Such unclean practices as sexual immorality, idolatry, thievery, and drunkenness can corrupt the Christian congregation. That is why those who refuse to stop practicing these things are disfellowshipped from the congregation. Ultimately, those who unrepentantly follow a course of uncleanness will be excluded from enjoying the blessings of God"™s Kingdom government. Really, all such wicked works constitute a shocking affront to "the Holy One of Israel.""”Romans 1:26, 27; 1 Corinthians 5:6-11; 6:9, 10.
CatawayI think the thread was proposal.. not a comentary, Heck we can't even agree to try to do a study together... It doens't take anytime for us to get off the subject.
I know your just answering what Rebel asked Pirk, but let us allfor once stick to the thread ........PROPOSAL.......
Heck we can't even agree to try to do a study together... It doens't take anytime for us to get off the subject.
myself being a lot less experienced would probably be in a read/question mode only, but it would be enjoyable, i like reading everyone elses thoughts, even when they get side-tract, it does force me to invetigate, and in that i'm always learning
