Before I start I just want to say that in no way is this intended as an attack on the solders of this great nation. I havea couple freinds who are in the USMC and I am so proud of them and thankful that they are both back in the states.
Ok, how come during war killing becomes justified? I just cant figure this out.
haven given this question very little thought and pondered even less
the only worthless answer would be that in the ten commandments
it should read "do not murder" .as killingis an innocent act which
makes it OK.there are rules to war. i don't know what they are but I'm shore one of them is do not murder.i guss that means give theother gie a fighting chance.LOL
all kidding aside i have to agree with you Guss.mans want of war is beyond
all /any christens thinking .i am grateful that i know the bibles promise that Jesus will make all wars to cease.
Many people make the mistake of believing the Bible says, "You shall not kill," and seek to apply this command to war. However, the Bible actually says, "You shall not murder" (Exodus 20:13).The Hebrew word literally means "the intentional, premeditated killing of another person." God often ordered the Israelites to go to war with other nations (1 Samuel 15:3; Joshua 4:13).God ordered the death penalty for numerous crimes (Exodus 21:12; 21:15; 22:19; Leviticus 20:11).So, God is not against killing in all circumstances, but rather only murder.War is never a good thing, but sometimes it is a necessary thing. In a world filled with sinful people (Romans 3:10-18), war is inevitable.Sometimes the only way to keep sinful people from doing great harm is by going to war with them.

God is certainly not against killing. Under the old law there were numerous incidences where stoning a person to death was ordained of God. In the New Testament in Romans 13:1 Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God.
13:2 Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation.
13:3 For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil. Wilt thou then not be afraid of the power? do that which is good, and thou shalt have praise of the same:
13:4 For he is the minister of God to thee for good. But if thou do that which is evil, be afraid; for he beareth not the sword in vain: for he is the minister of God, a revenger to execute wrath upon him that doeth evil.
Of course in the United States they no longer carry swords , they carry 9 MM pistols or 357magnums.
I'll tell you what....I thank God for our great military ...I personally enjoy the freedom to
1. Read my Bible anywhere I choose.
2. To pray unto Jesus
3. To have a Bible study
4. To freely talk to others about Christ.
5.To preach on the streets without being arrested.
6. Because our security is better than most countries we can do leisure things that some countries cannot like...
fish , hunt , bike , play sports , walk , hike , bike etc. In many countries you can not do these things.
According to Romans 13 the executing powers we have are ordained of God and we are admonished by the apostles to hold such leaders in prayer.
If you wanted Old Testament scripture as well ...God ordered complete countries murdered , women , men and children. 1 Sam.15:3 Now go and smite Amalek, and utterly destroy all that they have, and spare them not; but slay both man and woman, infant and suckling, ox and sheep, camel and ass.
And when Saul failed to carry out this command he was rejected of God.
16 "Only in the cities of these peoples that the LORD your God is giving you as an inheritance, you shall not leave aliveANYTHING that breathes. 17 "But you shall utterly destroy them, the Hittite and the Amorite, the Canaanite and the Perizzite, the Hivite and the Jebusite, as the LORD your God has commanded you, 18 in order that they may not teach you to do according to all their detestable things which they have done for their gods, so that you would sin against the LORD your God" (Deuteronomy 29:16-18).
Eccle.3:1 To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven: 3:3 A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up; 3:8 A time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace. Solomon
Good reply Bro Chuck; Four solid scriptural ref. given along with six very good lodgical reasons. But as cataway has already indicated, there is those who will reject the written record of God and exalt their knowledge above the knowledge of God. There are those who imply that God holds a double standard and use that reasoning to oppose the teachings of the Holy word, and adhere to manmade doctrines of some society of unbelievers. When we take the whole roll and eat it up, we will see that God does all things with a purpose and for a reason. God is to merciful to be cruel, and to wise to make a mistake. Only when men become able to see the ending from the beginning, will they be able to comprehend all of Gods ways. Gods ways is as the Heavens is above the Earth, and past finding out. One needs to be careful that he doesn't become guilty of pointing his finger in the face of God.
Very good reply Snook,
It used to bother me some about total anilation of countries but I didn't question God. However as I was reading the Old Test in a different translation I found an answer tha tsatisfied me. It was somewhere in Chronicles " And behind every idol were evil spirits."
I happen to agree with Rebel but just for something to think about. The examples of war and killing we're examples of God santioning or even ordering the killing. What if the war is started for no reason other than man's greed? Isn't it then just merely organized murder for the mere selfish and sinfullgain of man? If we know that is the case, aren't we obligated to resist it or at least not participate in itandaid insuch a sinful purpose? Again, just thinking out loud.

We are to submit to those placed in authority over us (see Romans 13). Of course, there are multiple examples of the Apostles disobeying authorities. If we are told to do something contrary to God's law, we MUST disobey man and obey God (see Acts 5:29).
Sylan, it would not be athreat, it would be premeditated killing, and in IMO, it would be murder.
I tend to agree Reb. Given that, the issue I then grapel with is what constitues a threat? When we are attacked or we are pretty certain we are about to be?If that's the case then our participating in Viet Nam or even the european theater of WW II wouldn't pass that test yet from a moral perspective I think we were right to go to war with Hitler. Thanks for your input, I really have trouble with this subject.
