Default friends a little help needed if you can

a few months ago some of you may remember a new member coming on here by the name of "blind bud" he is a young man that served our country and has been diagnosed with a diesease that will eventually blind him completly, he is considered legally blind at this point, he has asked if anyone here could help him with a hunt, i told him he could come here and we could hunt a mgt. area hunt and i am planning a fishing trip in his neck of the woods next month/early marchat lake talquin, and i invited him to go, he is tickled to death, Dec 3 i sent him all of my hunting video's except one that has the late dale earnhardt in it, well the postal service lost the package around 150$ worth of video's, i don't send many packages so i was not aware of tracking # and insurance, anyway the tapes have not shown up anywhere, me and the wife were very dissapointed so i went to wal-mart and bought another couple of video's, he got them today, and you would have though i had bought him a new truck, his e-mail has brightened my whole day, what i wanted to ask you as my friends if you have any old hunting video's that you don't watch and would not mind sending him something to watch, his wife is working and his 8 year old daughter is in school, andhe is completly home-bound and relies on his wife for most everything, and some of the e-mails he has sent me a truely heart-breaking

BTW if any of the rest of you florida boys would like to hook up, i'll let you know when i'll be headin that way

so if yall can help it would mean a lot to this young man i assure you, if you would like to read his e-mails or would like to respond to him directly let me know, or, if you need his address to send him a tape.....

thank you brothers and sisters, keith

may God bless all of you as richly as he has myself and my family

I'm a little fuzzy on what is going on. Is that lake in Florida? I believe it is. Do you mean to bring our own boats and meet you at the lake.

Yes, legally blind and "physically" blind are totally different. I have a buddy who's borderline legally blind as is still able to drive!!!!!!!!! I remember watching the olympics when I was a little kid and they kept showing one of the competitor's mother sitting a couple inches from a full size TV screen...they went on and on about it.

Alex I have an uncle and aunt that are both legally blind, they can see well enough to walk with out a cane and my uncle can read a paper wearing glasses that look like the bottom of old coke bottles and his nose touching the paper.

MT I wish there was something I could do to help, but I don't have any videos at all and the season is out here in Va. If he can still hunt next fall let me know, I will get him up my way for a hunt by hook or crook!

thanks for the responses, my first post may have been a little vague but i'll tell you what i can, "blind bud's" name is marcus he is in his early 30's, he served our country as a marine,at this point he is considered legally blind, he cannot drive at all, and the VA has helped him with a computer screen that he can read, he mentioned that he felt he could still kill a deer provided it was 30 yards or less, the total effect and progression of his illness is not known at this time, it could be six months (or shorter) six years (or longer) till he can only distinguish between daylight and dark or make out images or worse, the doctors are really unsure as to how far and how fast all of this will happen[&o], from what he has mentioned in his e-mails it is apparent that he is very dependant on his wife and daughter, he is home-bound. i was w/o a decent place to hunt this year from a last minute misunderstanding, but i invited him to come and hunt a wma with me, he said he would have liked to but it was not really a viable option because of his situation and his dependance on his wife to get him here and all, i will try to have it where he can come and hunt next season with me somewhere if possible...

i have asked if there were any other things i could help him with, believe it or not he really only asked for 1 thing, someone to talk with and converse about hunting,as he is very non-content to as he put it "sit and stare at the walls" he said the boredom was really bad, i really hope that if i were in his shoes i would be in as good of spirits as he is most of the time...

chuck i told him that since we couldn't get together to hunt maybe i could pull my boat down and we could fish, he lives in bristol fla. and is very close to talquin, it a small lake right off of I-10 in the pan-handle, me and the wife are planning on a trip sometime late feb-mid mar time frame, if any of you could make it to the area i would love to meet and spend a little time with any of you, on the water or off, i would love to have everybody in my boat at once but i think it would get a little dangerous with all of us casting[:-][:@]

guys thank you again, keith and like i mentioned if any of you would like his e-mail addy or home addy pm me or e-mail me and i will send you the info

between what i have sent to iraq and what i sent to "blind bud" i have one left, only because dale Srt is in it, other than that i'm out, i had recieved most of them as Christmas and b-day presents, they were not doing me any good, and i figured marcus would enjoy them. thanks for your thoughts and prayers for marcus and his family, i can tell he is jam up guy, and i just believe he gets a little lonely at home by himself, if he mentions anything else i'll let you guys know...

thank you again and God bless you all, keith

To be honest Keith that is a good 5 hour drive for me to pull my little boat. I probably can't make this one. I already have a few trips lined up. I may have another hunting hook up in GA through some distant relatives. I 'm looking into it.About 2000 acres or more.
We will see what happens.

Keith, I stay in a travel trailer camp right on the lake and they have a boat ramp. I have been there many times duck hunting. Man, I'm trying to remember the name and I can't. It was off the main highway west of Talahasee about 20miles. Have'nt been back since 1997.
