Default Author C.S Lewis

I saw a biography awhile back about the writer C.S. Lewis. I should say I saw about half of the show. Some people on the show were giving him alot of praise for help leading them to the lord through reading some of his books. Was wondering if any of you brothers have read any of them and what you thought of them.

I've read Mere Christianity which is an excellent book. I've also read the Screwtape Letters which is written from an entertaining perspective, and is very enlightening. Lewis to me is comparable to Ravi Zaccharius, very intelligent and certainly enlightened, but can be difficult to read. I had to read Mere Christianity twice to get it all in. But I am a Georgia boy too though. You could probably only have to read it once!

He, Frances Shaeffer, Ravi Zaccharias, that bambi mentioned,
are some of the most influential and noteworthy Christian authors and apologists of the 20th and 21st centuries. They are considered missionaries to the intellectuals--so why do I read them? They , actually, while very poignant and 'deep', are excellent sources for everyone, even children--and Georgia boys as well.

I've read all the narnia series (there's actually somethingor 7 or 9 of them, not just The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe) The Great Divorce and gave a "thoroughscimming" to Screwtape Letters and Mere Christianity. All or fabulous. I'm sure you can find his biography online but he was instrumental in bringing several other "intellectuals" at Oxford to Christ. Most of all his I like the simply fact that the Narnia and Great Divorce and be nothing more than a fabulous novel if you choose to make it such. I aslo heard that the Chronicles of Narnia and The Hobbit (Lord of the Rings) was a friendly rivalry between Lewis and Tolkien...didn't look that up, may just be hot air.

A long time ago I read some criticism on his theology, can't remember on what grounds and it obviously didn't convince me...besides, I doubt many "men of God" would go uncriticized if a good portion on their thought were in print.

The situation with Lewis and Tolkein involved Lewis' asking him his opinion of the Chronicles, and Tolkein discouraged him, sayingthat they weren't very good! Nothing mena spirited, just an interesting twist of events!
