Default Surprising Hunting Trip

My head Pastor asked me if I wanted to go goose hunting. Since I am new in a 700+ church, sure.

So we met up with 4 guys and went to the field. I was just chatting with him about his background, and how he got here or there. Just small talk. He asked the same. Strange thing, is he didn't want to talk about anything about salvation or churchs or doctrines. He just nodded his head. He would talk about his youth, or ducks, even truck brandsbut thats it. This guy seems so passionate in his sermons. Runs a decipleship program that runs for 4 years where basically its an intense bible study. We didn't pray before we hunted or anything. I mean this guy is usually balling on Sunday.

Not downing the guy, cause I think he is great. Just didnt expect that from him. He is supposed to be the guy who marries Jenn and I next year.

I mostly work with the assistent pastor. He seems to have such a zeal for talking about God and the word.

Do you think maybe he is just one of those pastors that doesn't like shop talk while hunting? Or maybe just to get to know me as one on one hunter and not pastor/church member relation?

Well, anyway, we didn't get any geese. The surefire way not to get geese is to take me with you.

They limited out with 30 lastFriday. He thinks this intense cold weather has pushed them out.

Well I don't blame him, Usually when I go on vacation I like to enjoy what am doing, if you are 24/7 in the ministry then you will appreciate talking about o ther things.Besides if he doesn't know you ,he might be afraid to touch a nerve by discussing a subject you might belief diffrently, he was feeling you out.

although prayers I never miss and do so even when am sitting on the stand.

Mark,
I'm like you ...Kind of surprized he didn't pray with ya. When I take a fellow Christian fishing or hunting we always pray. I do understand about not discussing Biblical issues though. I came up on a Baptist missionary on leave.once while hunting.Somehow we got on eternal secrity. We ended up splitting up. I know hunting with Strut...we prayed some together but I don't recall any Biblical discussions. After being on here for nearly a year I can see why...Our actions best reflect our true beliefs.

I hunted for several years with the pastor of the church I attended years ago. He loved the Lord and taught great Bible studies and was very intense in his zeal for serving the Lord. However, when we went hunting, he was a regular guy who loved bowhunting as much as I did and we had many trips to the woods where we didn't pray or "talk religion." We didn't avoid the issue, it's just our focus was on killing deer at the time. Sure enough, we did talk a lot about the Lord, but not on most trips.

I guess I have a bad habit of putting people on a pedistool to knock them down. I would have just figured that with his behavior in church, that he would have lived the life 24/7/365.

Like I said, he is a great guy. Very gifted. Has this way of really reaching out to people.

BC other then not saying a prayer before the hunt I really find nothing out of the ordinary with your experience, remember pastors are also men and in this situation I can see where if he is with members of his congregation he would prefer to talk hunting. It is rare I talk work with folks I hunt with.
