Progressive Insurance Chairman Gives $8.5 Million To ACLU Gift helps ACLU in their War on Christmas
Dear Carl, In one of his recent columns, Chuck Colson relates the following story.
[blockquote]In a Texas classroom, children were told to draw a tracing of their foot, and then put a message on the drawing. One little girl wrote "Jesus Loves Me" on hers. What happened next shows the abysmal state of religious tolerance in America.
As Fox news anchor John Gibson relates in his new book, The War on Christmas, the child's teacher ripped the tracing off the board. "Don't you ever do this again," she said. The little girl burst into tears.
When her outraged father called the school, nervous officials told the child to make another tracing. She did so"”but this time, instead of scrawling "Jesus Loves Me," she drew a tiny cross that was so small it was almost invisible.[/blockquote]Behind nearly every such incident you will find the ACLU. According to the New York Times, Peter Lewis, chairman of Progressive Insurance, believes in the mission and work of the ACLU so much that he gave them $8.5 million.
Chairman Lewis' gift helps the ACLU promote their anti-Christmas agenda such as:
[ul][*]Removing nativity scenes from public property[*]Banning songs such as Silent Night from schools[*]Refusing to allow students to write about the Christian aspect of Christmas in school projects[*]Renaming Christmas break Winter break[*]Refusing to allow a city sponsored Christmas parade to be called a Christmas parade[*]Not allowing a Christmas tree in a public school[*]Renaming a Christmas tree displayed on public property a Holiday tree[/ul]In addition to their war on Christmas, the ACLU uses gifts like that from Chairman Lewis to:
[ul][*]Sue states to force them to legalize homosexual marriage[*]Force libraries to remove porn filters from their computers[*]Sue the Boy Scouts to force them to accept homosexuals as scout leaders[*]Help legalize child pornography[*]Legalize live sex acts in bars in Oregon[*]Protect the North American Man Boy Love Association whose motto is "sex by eight or it is too late"[*]Censor student led prayer at graduation[*]Remove "under God" from the Pledge of Allegiance[*]Remove "In God We Trust" on our currency[/ul]Recommended action: If you have a Progressive Insurance policy, cancel it. If you don't have a Progressive policy, let Chairman Lewis know you will not be buying one. (We recommend you do not purchase Allstate Insurance. We will explain our recommendation in a future letter.)
Click here if you do not have a Progressive policyExtremely important! Please forward this to your family and friends. The vast majority of them probably aren't aware of Chairman Lewis' gift to the ACLU.
Thanks for caring enough to get involved.
Sincerely,

reb, i have read and re-read this and i tell you, i just don't get it, everywhere i look lately people want God, Jesus, and the holy spirit out of everything, the aclu, is blindly leading people into what it calls the peoples rights/freedoms, when in reality, the are in a continous struggle to pull everyone away from our basic rights/and strip us of our freedoms. i am really getting tired of the "pc" poop, when do the people who's rights and librety are stripped away have a say in what stays and what is not OK, what is progressives angle on all of this, and why is Mr. lewis so interested in the direction the aclu appears to be headed, rights need to be protected, but when they are so far out of the grasp of normal people, and so perverted, one can only question the motives, and the moral fiber of someone like Mr. Lewis......
i am happy to say they will NEVER knowingly recieve any proceeds from myself.. reb thanks for bringing this to our attention, i will be forwarding a copy to all in my address book......

ps
I don't, never have, never will have insurance with Progressive. Thanks for letting us know about this "contribution"!!! I'm sure some naysayer is gonna come on here and say, "Oh but he isn't acting as an official for Progressive. He is acting as a completely free individual." Too which I say, "YEP you are completely right. AND as a completely free consumer I am exercising my right NOT to do business with a company headed by such a political idealist"!
Lewis is a very, very active left-wing liberal. My political philosophies and his are not polar opposites, but very close.
However, I do think at times the ACLU is a necessary evil. They have done things I think help preserve the original freedoms everyone in this country was given. However, more times than not they seem to be on a tangent about something that really doesn't matter and isn't that big of a deal. Another problem I have with the ACLU is that although they claim to be protecting people's constitutional rights, they really don't. Look at the second amendment, then look at what the ACLU has done, and it's not hard to argue they pick and choose their amendments. But I digress.....
Let's look at their agenda:
Quote:
Removing nativity scenes from public property
My problem with nativity scenes is I don't feel it is one of the essential functions of government to buy one, yet some have tried. That, and the fact that I don't really want to have to drive by the courthouse and see a nativity scene accompanied by all sorts of other religious objects from Islam to pagan.
Quote:
Banning songs such as Silent Night from schools
The school can't mandate children sing it, but the children are certainly free to sing it themselves. While religion cannot be forced upon the individual, it cannot be forced from the individual, either.
Quote:
Refusing to allow students to write about the Christian aspect of Christmas in school projects
Again, the school cannot force this, but it cannot prohibit it either if it is within the scope of the project.
Quote:
Renaming Christmas break Winter break
They can call it deer hunting break as far as I'm concerned. It will have no affect on what I call it or how I acknowledge it.
Quote:
Refusing to allow a city sponsored Christmas parade to be called a Christmas parade
This is another area where I don't see the relationship betweenANY parade and essential governmental functions. Plus I don't want to have to sponsor a pagan parade with my tax dollars.
Quote:
Not allowing a Christmas tree in a public school
We've got one in the law school. [:-]
Quote:
Renaming a Christmas tree displayed on public property a Holiday tree
I refer to it by genus and species anyway.
BTW, what purpose does the Christmas tree actually serve from areligious standpoint? I know its where the goodies are hid, but is there something significant about the tree itself?
