Default money

Being a christian I know what the bible says about money. The saying " Money is the root of all evil" What I dont get is there are alot of people with money that are bad people. Then you have people that a dirt poor that are good people. Those that a rich and evil it seems that lifes so much easier for them. While the poor people work really hard in life things never seem to go their way.

Lay your treasures up in heaven brother. Life is a short span. Heaven is an eternity.

The bible didn't say that "money was the root of all evil", it said that "THE LOVE OF MONEY" was the root of all evil.

Snooky is right, it's the love of money.
I have seen people with money loving God and giving much, and I've seen the poor not being very righteous. Not all rich people are bad and not all poor people are good. What you do with your righteousness has nothing to do with money. It justs seems harder to look at a righteous man that is very poor and struggling to make it, than a rich person having all he wants and destined for hell... Who is worse off? I think you know the answer.

Hi Fred,
As Snooky has said ..let's look at the complete verse.

1 Timothy.6:9 But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition.

6:10 For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

6:11 But thou, O man of God, flee these things; and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness.

Fred you are not alone with this thought . For even KingDavid has said almost word for word what you have said. God's reply " You have not seen the man's end.....I have. Proverbs says..There are some who appear as they are rich but are really poor and there are some who appear poor but are really rich.
Jesus said....Luke 12:15 And he said unto them, Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man's life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth.

Love ya Fred and Merry Christmas

IMO having money opens doors to both greater good and greater evil. It is for us to decide. God gives us the freedom to choose to lead a sinfull life or a life where we try to be the best we can. There are bothsinfull and righteous people at all levels on the economic scale. You can't just assume because someone is rich they are less righteous than someone that is poor. What's in a mans heart is what makes the difference, not what's in his pocketbook. Are rich people more likely to be sinfull? I don't think so. Remember we are all sinners, rich and poor alike. The temptations may be different, i.e. the rich may be more tempted by pride (look at me) and the poor by envy but we are all tempted and we all sin and fall short of the glory regardless of where you fall on the socio-economic scale.

This topic is one that is very interesting. In my opinion being really wealthy and a christian is something God calls you to be. It takes a really good christian to have money and not live in the world. Imagine the temptation. They have the ability to live all of their worldy desires. It takes a very strong christian to live for the lord under this situation.

Of course the poor guy may have the same "worldly desires" but just doesn't have the money to act on them. But if he has those desires in is heart isn't he just as guilty of that sin?
