As I told ducsauce, I can't take credit for that buck in my avatar. I wish I could but my dad harvested that buck sometime in the 80's. He can't remember the exact date. I know it was before I could remember and I was born in '83. So it was probably early 80's he took that here in IL. Surprisingly, we are in the northern half. Near Joliet. So we aren't really the better counties in terms of IL and their big bucks. We can't hunt the ground he shot that buck on nowadays, but we are hunting on some stuff that is only about 1 mile away from there.
I call that the "Basement Buck" cause it has never come out of the basement. In the house I grew up in it was always on the wall heading down to the basement and even in my parents new house, it is hanging on the wall in the unfinished basement.
It is a shame, that buck should be mounting over the fireplace.
I guess all of us bucks end up in the basement or doghouse sometime in our lives!
Saw some really nice bucks second shotgun season, I couldn't take them though because I bagged my first buck during the first season. I need to work on patience next year
It was a nice 8 pointer. Man, I had a couple of stare downs with him that me almost shake right off the bucket I was sitting on. It was amazing.
Anyways, thanks again for the welcome. Glad I know I can visit a site that loves the sport of hunting and more importantly, loves God!
