64 years ago today, the ***aneese attacted Pearl harbor and a generation of americans were swept up in a world war. That generation is rapidly slipping away from us and may God go with them. Today is a good day to take a moment to appreciate their sacrifice and to pray that their remaining years will be filled with joy.
Amen sylvan, it is easy for me to remeber, my father-in-law passed on this date 18 years ago, i have never heard anyone say a single bad word about him, his weapon of choice, a flip, and the mandolin, he was unreal with both

Curious as to what a "flip" is? Mandolins, along with cellos, clarinet, french horn, fretless guitars and the HUMAN VIOCE are among the most beautiful instruments to my ear. Of course, there are bad examples of all, and you need to know what you're doing with them.
Good call on remember December 7th. Grandfather passed before I was old enough to talk about things of that nature. Not sure he would've. I do know out of about 200 men in his company (or whatever his was called) a "little less than 2 dozen" made it out. Scary, and all who were involved need to be remembered and honored.

Dear Father in heaven,
We pray for those sons and daughters of our country who honorably serve in the armed forces. We thank You for their willingness to defend the freedoms we all enjoy. As they are called to duty in places foreign to them, give them courage. As they are separated from families and friends, give them comfort. As they face hardships and fear in unknown surroundings, give them strength. Fill each anxious mind with the true knowledge of Your Son, Jesus Christ, who conquered death for us all. Instill in each heart the peace of Your Holy Spirit who brings us all home in Christ Jesus. Amen.

Thank you Reb, I'm sincerely touched. Thank you all for remembering.
My father was in North Africa and with Patton in the Buldge. He had 3 brothers. 1 in the Pacific and fought at Guatacanal. The other 2 were in Europe. Only 1 brother left now. My mother had 3 brothers. All 3 fought in europe. The one remaining landed at Normandy and fought through all the way to Berlin. He earned a Bronze star and Purple Heart. My wifes father was a gunner in a B-26, flew over 50 missions and was shot down 3 times. He was the only survivor on one of those occasions. So of those 8 that I mention in my family only 2 reamain. I can't tell you how much I admire them. I get choked up just thinking about what they went through and how it has impacted my life. I don't mean to ramble, I just want people to remember.
soil my granfather was also there (wwII), don't have a lot of stories though, it was a time he really didn't care to re-visit, a flip is a country boy word for a sling-shot, my father-in-law was unreal with one, he would knock squirrells out of trees on a very regular basis, he could also bust a coke bottle with one, which i understand was a hard thing to do, as the coke bottle had to be struck in exactly the right spot, the man was a friend to all, never met a stranger, i hope someday i meet his level of understanding of people, he really loved life, and made the most of everyday.....and could play every stringed instrument made, we really miss him[&o]

Gotta give it to the vets--especially in that era--the whole counrty was different then--thye actually pulled together without all the jockeying for ploitical gain!
My dad also served in world war two. Him and 5 of his brothers all served and all survived action. None of them spoke much about it. Only 3 of the 6 left now. . . .All were/are christian and avid deer hunters.

Yep, I always take a moment on this day and just think about what it meant too us not only as their children/grandchildren but as a nation as a whole. I think we "became the superpower of the millenium" as those bombs fell in Hawaii. WWII took us out of the fields and Depression and the momentum has carried us this far today. Both my grandfathers were in it (one even re-enlisted for Korea) and tho one hasn't been with us for 11 years now, I spoke at length with both of them about those times. Don't forget about your gradmothers as well, war is hell on the homefront as well and it is worth getting their opinions from that aspect as well. I guess it is just because I was raised pretty much in a single parent home most of my life so I was REALLY close and around both sets of grandparents alot. Exposed too alot of their types of lifestyles, freinds and goings on. That's why I think of myself as "the oldest 34 year old in the country"! [:@]I just take it forgrantedbut most folks my age have never heard of Jack Benny or knew what George Burns meant when he said, "Say goodnight Gracie"! They were just such a fascinating generation of Americans. Those still with us have been through ALOT. I mean they grew up without electricty and rarely a phone and many went to school on foot or behind/atop a horse. Now those still with us are using the internet, watched man land on the moon and have seen pictures beamed back from other planets. That's a pretty amazing span to live through IMHO.
Sadly we are loosing our "greatest generation" too the tune of thousands per day! I really cherish these folks. They have ALOT to contribute too and much more to learn from, but sadly they are rarely sought out for muchthese days! []
God Bless America and God Bless "The Greatest Generation"...

Another thing I often think about when this topic comes up is the comparions too todays pop culture. In WWII many in Hollywood became service men and women and many others were happy to go on the USO tour and others were spokespersons for such things like War Bonds and the like. They realized that we are all part of the same pie and were ready to pitch in and help and return something too their nation who had given them so much. What can we say about Hollywood and the last 3 wars we have been in since Korea??? [:'(]
