My oldest daughter and her husband have a beautiful little girl named Kennedy. She was 6 months old on the 24th of this month. We began to notice awhile back that something didn't seem quite right. She doesn't lookdirectly at anything and doesn't reach for things like she should. She is right on track with everything else---she smiles, laughs, coos, babbles and rolls all over the place. But sight seemed to be a problem.
Well, today she saw an eye specialist in Portland. Apparently her optic nerves didn't develop properly. He believes that she can probably sense light and darkness, but is basically blind. There is no treatment. She will also be having an MRI of her brain and pituitary gland. Her brain function seems fine as far as we can see, but they need to make sure her pituitary gland is normal.
Sometimes in life things happen and we don't ever know why---but sometimes we get to find out. When my daughter was 5 years old, she started kindergarten and became best friends with Dani. To this day, they are inseparable. Whenthey werein middle school,Dani was diagnosed with Stargardt's. It's a progressive eye disease that eventually causes blindness. Dani was allowed to choose one person to study and learn Braille with her so that she could always write back and forth with someone. Of course she chose Tina, my daughter.
So, not only can Tina read and write Braille, but she also knows that blindness does not mean the end of the world. She has watched Dani grow up, marry a wonderful guy, work, and soon, have a baby of her own. I thank God for that! But as any parent can imagine, this is a terribly sad thing to learn about your own baby.
Please say a prayer for all of them, and that the MRI shows nothing else wrong. Thanks guys.

I saw this in the Off Season and thought it should be over here as well.
