I was at mass last week for my sons confirmation. I took special interest to the homily that our priest gave us.
His premise of the homily was for everyone to share at least 15 minutes out of your day with God. To talk with God for 15 minutes out of your day each and every day. Not to just get a book of prayers and start rattling off prayer after prayer, but to have a genuine conversation with God. Don't use the time to ask for things or talk about your troubles, but to strengthen your relationship as a friend of God.
Sometimes your 15 minutes with God will result in feeling good about what you've talked about and sometimes you may take nothing from it. Whatever the case may be, it is equally important that you share a portion of your day to build your relationship this way.
I find that this is easily done while sitting in a treestand for hours because there is ample time to do so. However, during the day to day hectic life it is equally if not more important to set aside the same time to have your time with God. I for one have been guilty of finding myself only talking with God when it seemed I needed some assistance and asking him for personal/selfish things. I find it rewarding just being able to have a rap session and talk to him like you would one of your buddies.
Along the same lines he went on to discuss how we shouldn't just celebrate and recognize him on specific holidays such as Christmas, Thanksgiving, Easter, etc..... How about the day after such holidays? Did you praise him and celebrate him the same way 1 day after? 1 week after? 1 month after? Each and every day is just as important to have your personal relationship with God. It's easy to lose focus on that in this modern day fast paced lifestyle.

Amen NY Bowhunter...I believe we would all agree with ya on that one. We need a personal relationship with God daily and not just go through some rituals once a week. AMen.
Thanks for the post

You are right--absolutely. SometimesI find myself rattling off my list of needs--legitimate needs, and even at His invitation. But, Palms 100 says that we are to enter His courts with thanksgiving and into His gates with praise. The pattern for prayer in what we refer to as The Lord's prayer begins with praise first, and then a recognition of our priorities--Our Father--hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done. In other words, it is a relationship of first putting ourselves in line with His perspective of recognizing His preeminence in all things, and recognition of our position before Him--as dependent and subservient. Sort of like when we interact with others. we want, first to be appreciated for who and what we are ,instead of what someone may think they can get out of the relationship. We don't like to be used--and neither does the Lord.
I speak with the Lord numerous times every day. But I find I have considerably more time to do so when I'm sitting in a treestand. I always carry my camoflaged pocket New Testament and I read it and pray while waiting for muy grande to wander by.

The NKJV removes the word "Lord" 66 times!
The NKJV removes the word God 51 times!
The NKJV removes the word "heaven" 50 times!
In just the New Testament alone the NKJV removes 2.289 words from the KJV!
The NKJV makes over 100,000 word changes!
And most will match the NIV, NASV, RSV, or RSV!
And Thomas Nelson Publishers have the audacity to claim in an ad for the NKJV (Moody Monthly, June 1982, back cover), "NOTHING HAS BEEN CHANGED except to make the original meaning clearer."
The New King James is a COUNTERFEIT!
It's NOT NEW! The changes are already in the NIV, NASV, NRSV, or RSV!
And it's certainly NOT true to the 1611 King James Bible!
