Default Bad Day in the woods

Well, today was the first day of gun in MD. I passed on 6 different deer. Some spikes, and 4 points. I decided to stay in the stand all day. At 3PM, I saw a rack at the bottom of the hill bordering another piece of property. So I shot my 45-70 around 90 yards. I saw it go up on the other piece of property and lay down. So I waited a few min, and started out of my stand. I heard a loud boom. The guy who owns the property it went on shot. I put head down cause I knew this would be a problem. I wasn't 50 yards from the deer when the guy came down pulling the deer as fast as he can yelling "I got it". So I found piles of blood and bone all the way up to it. I told him I saw it go down. He wouldn't look me in the eye and said it got back up and he had to put another round in it. It was a nice 8. My hit took out the three back ribs and made a fist size exit hole. His went in the guts and didn't exit. Kinda like it was shot on the ground.

I promised myself, whatever happens, I would put it in God's hand and let it go. So I asked him, "So you really are going to claim this deer". He said "I got it". I smiled and didn't say a word and helped dragged it up to his tractor on top of the hill, and said "well congrads".

I felt good at first saying, "I have had a good year, maybe he needed the meat". Then I started getting bitter. I am having such trouble letting it go. I promised whatever happened, I would put it in God's hands and let it go. But having so much trouble. I prayed and prayed about it. But still bitter. I don't need anymore meat, and I really don't want to tag out my buck yet anyway, but am so down about the principal of it.

Real sorry about that but I'm proud of you. I'm proud of you that you didn't lose your temper and do something stupid. Doing the right thing doesn't always feel good at first. I've been learning that lesson myself. Faith obeys God no matter what the feelings are saying and you went against your feelings and obeyed what you felt God leading you to do. That was a trophy in itself. Congratulations on obedience. I know you already have a freezer full from reading your other post. Hear is an Old Testament verse I want to leave with ya.

Habbakuk 3:17 Although the fig tree shall not blossom, neither shall fruit be in the vines; the labour of the olive shall fail, and the fields shall yield no meat; the flock shall be cut off from the fold, and there shall be no herd in the stalls:

3:18 Yet I will rejoice in the LORD, I will joy in the God of my salvation.

Bigcountry, Sorry to hear about your day and the buck. I can say that I know how you feel as I have had the same thing happen to me some yrs ago. Except mine was a kid that ran up and shot my deer with a 410. It was an 8 point and at the time it was bigger than anything I had ever shot. Giving it up to a kid was hard enough , but a growed man . . .sheesh. You and I know that you did the right thing, but that doesn't make it any easier. I pray that the Lord will bless the rest of your yr.

Ok, Chuck, First off thanks for the encouragement.

Your right, all is really a small or moot point when it comes to rejoicing in the Lord.

Your right, I didn't feel too bad about the meat as I do have a freezer full but I figured the guy would have did it a little differently. Maybe his family does need the meat. I pray they enjoy it.

Good luck to you all.

I don't have a doubt that God doesn't have sometime better planned for you this year. When you get one bigger, you'll forget about this one...

I was going hunting, and got stood up by my buddies, and then my wife made me put up the tree, lights, stockings... I think she went hunting and got a dummy!

you certainly are a different person now Bigboy, I can see that. The old guy would have punched his lights out, the new one prayed for him. You did the right thing, and Im sure you will be rewarded (and not necessarily with another big buck). You reach a point in life where things like this arent worth going to jail, fines etc, you are just happy to be in the woods.
Hope you bust a big one in Blackwater Mon!!!!

Big Country,
Your a Christian my friend. We are destined for things as these. The Lord will reward you for your faithfulness. You need to pray for that fellow so your heart won't grow a root of bitterness. I do rejoice in the way I have seen you grow. You have shared your background on here and I am sincerely proud of the way that you handled yourself. You have truly been touched by our Lord. I'll be in prayer for you. I also pray that you will recover quickly from that fall from your stand.

I don,t think our bigcountry is the one posted in the 2005 bow hunting contest Chuck7. You might clear this up BC there are two of you that use the hendel big country. The titles are just presented in a different way. Oh and don't freat over the deer. (easier said than done) Every time he tells the story he will remember your face and know his character is flawed. Every bite he will see your face comming at him. He'll probably show up on your door step begging you to take the deer. lol
