Lousy Opening Day

I hate deer dogs!!!

. . . .[:@] . .Sorry, had to get that off my chest.
Opening day of gun season with dogs[:@]. Saw a bobcat, a possum, and 4 squirrels. I was serenaded all day by a hundred deer hounds on private and personal property.[:@]

I agree..went today and the dogs were barking in the next pasture and never saw a deer.. but will go again mon. morn..good luck on your next trip..

Using dogs for deer hunting is illegal in MD. However, there used to be a neighbor who used the excuse that he was just "training" his rabbit dogs. They ran through the brush and chased out deer who got shot at 20-30 times before enough BAD shots connected to finally bring the deer down.

I hated that too.

Day 2 . . .Told my wife I would miss church this evening and go to the deer stand instead. We have a mini revival coming up next weekend and my favorite evangelist will be there.
Anyway, I figured after the dogs ran the hide off them yesterday that they may be getting settled back in today. It was pleasent sitting there with a slight breeze and a few squirrels around . . .no deer. I gave a call on the tube and waited until just about dark when out of boredom I hit the fawn bleat. Out comes a single doe . . .she's acting like she has had a real traumatizing life. I could'nt make up my mind to shoot her . .it being sunday and all. . . .poor reasoning because if it had been a buck I would have dropped it.
Anyway, at dark I hoped that she had moved off and was coming down from the tree when she wheezed and took off. I could hear several other deer tearing up the brush with her.
I'm feeling jinxed this yr.[:@]

We used to have deer come up to our deck at the lake. Which meant I could just sit on the deck and pick out which one I wanted with my bow. But now our neighbors that live on the lake full time brought home a dog. Now I rarely even see rabbits. I have killed several wild cats this year, but the dog is starting to look pretty good...
