I LOST MY FINAL DEBATE WITH DR. ADRIAN ROGERS [/b]
MUSLIM YOUTH EXPLAIN WHY THEY ARE BURNING EUROPE A VALID LINK BETWEEN U.S. DISASTERS AND BIBLE PROPHECY?
I LOST MY FINAL DEBATE WITH DR. ADRIAN ROGERS [/b]
Dr. Adrian Rogers, the former pastor of Bellevue Baptist Church in Memphis, Tennessee, three time president of the 16 million member Southern Baptist Convention, and founder of the international radio/TV ministry "Love Worth Finding," died early on the morning of Tuesday, November 15, at 74.
He was not a sports star, or a political leader, but he could have been. He gave up a spectacular career as a quarterback to study for the ministry and resisted all efforts to get him into politics where he would have easily been a contender for the presidency.
Dr. Rogers and I became friends when he was pastor of the Parkview Baptist Church in Ft. Pierce, Fl. He loved to debate and we spent many nights arguing to late hours following my revivals meetings with him in every church he pastored after finishing school. He could take either side of an issue and usually come out on top.
We only had one serious debate; our last. I used every persuasion I knew to convince Dr. Rogers to have a book written about his greatest achievement, leading the Southern Baptist Convention from its rampant liberalism to a Bible-believing group. I thought it would have inspired so many other preachers to preach boldly and even rebuke presidents of the United States, as he did.
But, this great leader dismissed all my arguments and modestly refused to take the credit he deserved. I lost this debate with Dr. Rogers. It was our last.
Martin Luther and John Wesley yielded great influence, but they never changed the Church of England nor the Roman Catholic Church.
Dr. Adrian Rogers is the only man in history to ever lead a major Christian group from skeptical unbelief back to faith in the Bible. Let the records show it.
