Default Fear

1 John 4:18 There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love.
We had this verse come up in a study recently and it really had a humbling effect on me. A example a brother gave was of our lord Jesus. When Jesus was in the garden on the night of his betrayl he was very troubled and that he prayed so hard his sweat turned to drops of blood. And asked the father if their was a way for this thing to pass from him but the fathers will be done. He was not fearful of the pain and suffering he knew was to come. But it broke his heart to think that his father would have to look upon him as sin. Lord help us all grow and build the perfect love you undeservedly showed us.

A very good reminder of His sacrifice, and of what it cost Him. It cost , not only His life, but very sin thathas ever been committed was placed on Him, and He knew separation from the Father for the first time as well. More excrutiating than we'll ever know.Thanks.

Biscuit,

The night in Gethsemane has always been of great interest to me. I'm curious to know what you all felt caused the blood to sweat from Christ's pores that night? Do you think being troubled included fear and that caused the expiation or something else?

God Bless,

Porter

I don't believe there is any doubt that the anticipation of the significance of what He was about to face would have caused a natural and normal sense of dread to His humanity. Fear is like anger---it is an emotion--it only becomes sin when that emotion overrules what we know to be true--or when it is irrational, or unfounded, whether that is a mere perception or a real instance.

Amen....

Sometimes our body reacts apart from our inner man. When my wife feels pressure her entire face is red. When I'm in a new situation I studder. Christ body was going to go through a tremendous torture. His soul was going through a torture as well. I know He is the SOn of God but...pain is pain. His body felt every ounce of torture. The sin of the entire world was going to be on Him. I believe He was EXTRENMELY TROUBLED TO SAY THE LEAST.
