Default is drinking and smoking really that bad

I am sure I will hear things I wont want to hear. Is drinking and smoking really that bad?I have heard that God does care if we drink but its all about moderation. Jesus even drank I am sure he didnt get drunk.Thatbtakes me to what is moderation. At what point are you sinning by drinking to much? I love my alcohol.I know that I am probably drinking more then I should. What about smoking is that so bad? If you do it ever now and then. I like to have a cig from time to time to just relax a bit.

I always find it funny when people say they smoke to relax. Ever felt your pulse after smoking? I don't know about the whole Judeo-Christian thing, but from a Pagan standpoint when you harm yourself, you stray from your spritual path. We only have one commandment, which is "an it harm none, do as you will". That includes harming yourself, and in the case of smoking, those around you as well.

I don't do either. My body is the Temple of the Holy Spirit, why should I do something that brings no good to it?

I don't smoke or drink. I never really had the urge or temptation to do it. I believe that both are detrimental to your health, to your finances, to your family. I really see no good in either.

Most (Christian)people see the bad in cigarettes, but then try to justify drinking alcohol. I personally believe, that most people get themselves into trouble when it comes to drinking. Most people drink because they cave into peer pressure. Very few people start drinking because they say, "oh, it helps my heart out." They have the wrong motives, and it ends up getting ahold of their life.

I have yet to meet an alcoholic who has never drank a beer. Or a 3rd generation alcoholic who's grandparent's and parents never touched alcohol. Or a person who has a rap sheet because of DWI.

Get my point? Why drink at all...it only takes one time, and all of the things I just listed might follow. Why risk it at all?

1st I stoped drinking about 12 years ago.
2nd never have smoked any thing.

But I think if you want to drink do as you will. same with smoking. If some one dose not like it THEY can move to a difrant chair or table for that matter.I will not try to tell any one to stop what they like to do.The next thing that happens is some one want to stop me from what I am doing.

The reasion I stoped drinking. I would fight most every time. Some times realy hurting people. I allso looked at the 50 bucks a night I could use to go on trips hunting/fishing.

I say do what you like to do.

Jesus never took one drink of alcohlic beverage..

I have seen this debated for years and no one ever wins..the drinkers and smokers say it's alright and the non drinkers and smokers say it is wrong. the Bible says it is wrong..It is a proven factthat both are bad for your health and that many die from the use of both..I at one time was a drinker and a smoker but i came to my senses and quitmore than30 years ago..

First of all, I don't think you should drink or smoke but to my knowledge, nowhere in the bible does it say that drinking is wrong. I see several places where it says that one shouldn't become intoxicated but it doesn't say that drinking is wrong per se. If you can show me where it does I will change my position but I don't think you can. Also, I think it is pretty clear from the bible that Jesus did in fact drink. He even made wine. Everyone drank alcholholl then, even children.

History itself is awash in alcohol. Wine was the spirit of choice in the early times if for no other reason than there was no other way of keeping water sanitary. If Jesus thought wine was bad why then did he quench the masses with it? (I often wonder though, whatelse would he have turned the water into? Jack Daniels and Agustus Busch didn't walk the planet until nearly 2k years AFTER he was making water into other things!)Smoking? Yeah I will admit that it will KILL you, sooner or later. I know alot of good people (some friends, some relatives) who would still be alive if they had never bothered cigs.

But like ANYTHING else in life, I believe God left us with the choice to choose moderation or suffer the consequences of our actions. An occasional cigar is of no harm if you ask me. I just can't see it. BUT a good friend of my step-fathers was Louis Johnson who was John Waynes partner and dear friend of many years until The Duke passed of cancer (from smoking of course). "Louey" as he was dearly known by would still be with us today had he not chewed on his ever present cigar. He developed cancer which eventually got into his head. So even cigars CAN get you, just use them in moderation.

As for alcohol, same again. I actually come from a family (dads side) of generations of hard drinking (Scotts-Irish ancestory) and the men in our faimly have been known to "like the bottle". My father swore not to become another statistic so he practically swore off of it. (But another genetic trait was for heart disease and that nearly got him 4 years ago!) And I will admit to liking beer. I just enjoy relaxing with buddies and having a few beers at the same time. I do it when I ride my Harley and "hangout" with friends and I am the "beer man" for our deerclub. Later this week our annual hunt in MO will take place and I am responsible for a 120qt cooler full of beer for the 11 hunters (friends and family) that will gather in annual tradition that is decades old. Whiskey will be brought by others and I am sure more than a few hangovers will be "suffered" during the couple of days everyone is there. BUT it's all in good humor and we have NEVER had the first problem and no one in the group is a problem drinker or ever does such on a regular basis.

As with anything else in life, life itself is a gift and a responsibility that is to be first cherished and then enjoyed by all. That is why the supreme creator touched breath into us, so that we may live and enjoy his gifts.

Otherwise why bother getting out of bed?
