I just wanted to share the news of a recent blessing I recieved. While I was out west my wife made one of her trips to the casino and won $1,400.
She normaly goes about 4 or 5 times a year(this was her 3rd trip this year so far)and takes $100 to gamble with. Normaly she either breaks even or loses around $40 of the $100, she even wins often enough that she mostly makes up for the small amount she loses the other trips.
Normal she will have recieved a coupon for a free room and a trip to the buffet in some mailing and from one of the casinos, she takes that with her. Over all I am very pleased that she can take a day or two for herself and enjoy some entertainment.
Thanks
Mr-Pirk

That's cool. I almost never win. I did win $200 on a slot machine once, first pull. I don't gamble much, and when I do, I do it like your wife does. I take a certain amount (small) and never go over that amount. I usually lose half and decide not to play the rest. I just can't seem to give my money away that easy, even if I planned for it.

My wife an I walked around a casino in California for over 2 hrs, while her Sis played the slots.......... pathetic waste of a good building.
we have as many slots @ Charles Town Races, as Atlantic City does... with thousands more coming next month( since Maryland voters defeated the slots agenda)... Please don't try to glamorize that lifestyle to me, I see 1st hand how "good" it is for the community....

Congrats to your wife Mt P good deal . Also glad you had a good time on yer elk hunt-hopfully next time you will get your meat too.
Me& the mate go to deadwood, S dakotaonce in awhile to gamble(once a yr but not every yr)- bit its been a few yrs. We always do the same $50 each& when thats gone we quit. The mates even won a few hundred - not me tho
Where do ya go to gamble- is it within your state? Here intill recently there wasnt any (legal gambling here(except otb& bingo maybe?)- but after many yrs of taking the state to court- The native tribes got the right to have gambling on THERE lands- dont know what the problem was( legaly- they are there own soverin Nation& country- within this state. So at least now some of the moneys will stay within the state- instead of it all going to naboring states & all those who go elsewhere to gamble or doing it ilegaly here( plenty do)instead.

I have to say that I am alittle confused....... I am a new Christian, but I have always been taught that gambling is wrong.
I have been to Vegas once and played black jack. This was before I was saved. I have to say that IMO Vegas is the most wicked city I can imagine. Even though I was un-saved I felt like God's displeasure was weighing heavy on my heart. I didn't know then why I was feeling the way I did, but now I know!
The city was built on gambling and IMO the love of Money there sickens me. I'll never go back.

I've asked previously for some scripture that calls gambling a sin. I got no responses. I'm torn on this one. I too have been indoctrinated that gambling is sinful. I know there are biblical examples for casting lots, but is that ever referred to as a bad thing?
As far as the lust for money thing goes...That's in your heart. It's a human thing. Gambling, itself, has no heart, no brain, no lust. If one were to contend that gambling is only about lusting after money, then the same could be said about a very good career.

Just like anything else. If it grabs ahold of your heart, it can be a bad thing. Like gluttony, drinking, smokin, chewin bacca. And most churches have decided to take the stand, its too big a risk, so don't do it. Like drinking one beer or whatever.
On the other hand, I just got back from Vegas for business, and it really showed the terrible waste of money and gluttony

Elgallo I am about like you, I am not to much of a casino fellow either, I will normaly get a $2 roll of nickles and play on the nickle machines in between walking around watching my wife enjoying herself on the quarter slot machines.
We have a horse racing track near us, I do enjoy studing the racing form and trying to pick the winners. I limit myself to a twenty dollar bill and that is what I use to start betting with. I normaly do a good job of figuring the racing form and when I have the horse I figure to win, I bet it to show. It dosen't make for a large winnings pile, but it keeps me from losing about 80% of the time.
Rem1100 I can understand what you mean about some buildings being a waste of space, I think about all the money that gets wasted on pro football games and pro base-ball games and Nascar tracks and other forms of entertainment and think, WOW what a waste of space.
I am not trying to glamorize anything. Done in the right fashion and managed properly casinos CAN be a good thing for a city\state.
Knightia I did enjoy my elk trip very much. Thanks for asking, I just wish the elk had been there to be found.
Arkansas has a horse racing track and a dog racing track, but no casinos, my wife goes to Mississippi or Louisanna to thier casinos. They have regular bus companys that make runs to them for about $10 per-person, my wife normaly does that and they give you a $10 meal ticket to the buffet so she breaks even on the bus fare.
She will normaly gets one or two of her friends to load up and go with her.
FroMan there are a lot of folks that feel like you do. I have to wonder if there are anyother forms of entertainment such as attending pro football, boxing, rodeos, fishing in bass fishing tours that you also has a problem with to the point of not endorsing anyone doing those things?
Hunting Gus I can understand your confusion, gambling is one of those things that the bible doesn't address, either pro or con. Many churchs that have taken it upon themselves to condem gambling. They do so for personal reasons, although they will try and give their dis-pleasure a biblical flavor.
I do agree about there being wickedness in Las Vagas, I have been there twice and I was amazed at the amount of prostution there, I was also amazed at the amont or "Escorts" in Atlanta, Dallas, New Orleans, Chichago, Milwalkie, and several other large cities I have been in.
A very good post Eto The Pii. There are no verses addressing gambling either pro or con.
Big Country there are lots of things that can get a hold of your heart. I am trying to remember the last time I saw a church group protesting fat people ordering a Big Mac or even the grand opening of a tabacco store.
Rebel Hog I know what you mean about the foolish things some folks spend their money on, the local race car track comes to mind, you ever hear those folks talk about how much money they spend on their race cars for a chance at meager winnings, and what about those folks that pay good money to try and ride a bull at the rodeo. Bull riding has for sure banged up a lot of folks over the years, some even get crippled and can't earn a living after that. Unless there is some hidden meaning to the other two verses you posted I don't see how they can be construed to have anything to do with enjoying a day at the casino.
Thanks
Mr-Pirk
