Default Christians and pistols

Friends,
I want your opinion on this thing. I am powerfully convinced that we humans are very easily influenced in the things we do. For instance..last week a fellow teacher wanted me to shoot a BUNCH of guns with him. I really liked his 44 magnum . Most of you know I will be driving to MO in Nov. All of you realize we live in a crazy world. With all that said I visited the local gun shop. I purchased a used Ruger 357 for 275.I told the man I did not plan on shooting anyone asnd what would he reccomend for target shooting. I bought the 38 special rounds. I also checked all the states I will be driving through to see if I could carry it loaded. FL , GA and Mississippi are fine with it loaded in the glove box. AL and Ar are not. Anyway I personally do not see it as little faith. I am not Mr. Maucho with a firearm. I always do my best to ignor crazy folks and have had success with my temper. I over look alot and know how to ignor real good. However; if I felt my life seriously threatened I'm sure I would have no trouble shooting someone. I have mixed emotions about buying the gun. I was concerned about being broken down and standed out in the middle of Tin Buc 2.LOL What is you alls opinion?
Thanks CHuck7

I've learned in my 56 years on this earth, that when you need a gun, there is nothing that will take it's place.

Well, as I mentioned earlier. I am not scared near as much anymore. Sometimes my faith is strong, and I say, "do you think Jesus would carry a handgun". And then I get scared and think I need protection. If we truely hang on to this world, we are not welcomeing our spiritual bodies.

We all here hang onto this world in some form or another. Because if he had that much faith, as Jesus said we could move mountains. Or maybe I hang onto hunting too much. We all read that Heaven makes all of our little fun things puny. So why are we clinging so tight to this world? I know for me, cause I am still working on that faith.

But used too I was scared. So I packed. I still love to go every week shooting pistols. I reload alot, and feel it such a release to go every week in the winter and blast 50 - 100 rounds at lunch. Brother its all where your heart is.

I have some friends I haven't talked too in a long time that if they read this, I they would bet you a millions dollars that there friend Mark didn't write this. But guys I am slowly changing. And I am happier for it.

Funny thing, I have owned guns all my life yet I have never owned a handgun, being a hunter I have always viewed a gun as nothing but a tool and not a weapon. To me a handgun is different then a rifle or shotgun, its real over all intent is to be used as a weapon. I am considering buying one however because someone mentioned that they are excellent to have when a bear decides to get up close and personal!

Chuck as with many things in life things are what you make them, a handgun can be used for hunting, target shooting, self defense, to kill, to rob or intimidate!

The gun is neither evil nor good, it is you that makes it what it is. It is like so many other things in the world today some things are fine in moderation but sinful in excess, the internet can be a wealth of knowledge and spiritual uplifting or it can be a cesspool of sin! It is all what you make of it.

Mark ,
As big as you are I can't imagine you being scared of nothing. I have been in some hairy situations before. If i had a gun I probably would of shot this fellow here. There was a repot of a lot of rapes and murders when I came to Florida.

I went to the local park to do some bass fishing. Not far from me was a stocky black man sizing me up pretending he was reading the newspaper. I caught a nice 2 pound bass and I felt like I'd better leave. I drove on the other side of the park, walked down a narrow path in the woods. I was a runner then and only had on running shorts and shoes. I walked about 200 yds and made a long cast with a Rooster tailed spinner. When I turned around guess who was walking toward me with a perverted look. I had time for a one sentence prayer. In my heart I screamed GOD HELP ME!!
I realed my lure in as fast as I could , turned screaming and thrashing mylure in this man's face. He fell backwards and I got out of dodge. We do live in a freaky world.

Depends on your point of view Taz--the miliatary's main weapon for foot soldiers isn't a handgun. Everthing from SWAT teams to your local sheriff generally had shotguns and rifles at their disposal. I was just the opposite--before I got into archery like I have, I was really into handguns. Not for weapons, but for target shooting and hunting. Akitchen knife or a screwdriver or a baseball bat can be used as a weapon.

Chuck, as for the trip, I don't know. I do quite a bit of travelling, especially in the spring/summer, to and through several different states. Sometimes it's by myself, and I don't remember the last time I took a gun with me--usually it never crosses my mind. The way I look at it, when it's time for me to go, it's time for me to go, and nothing I do will change that. Not to say that I'm going to tempt God by jumping off a cliff or walking through the roughest part of a big city at night by myself--but I think you know what I mean.

Do what you are comfortable with, and be sure to abide by the laws.

Chad

Thanks Chad,
And yes I understand that too. It's probably why I never bought one before. They are much cheaper to shoot than I thought 50 rounds for nine something. Thanks for responding.
