What do you all think about cremating. I hope I spelled it right.

Unless I find out something different, that's how I plan to be put away. Saves on funeral expenses, no grave site to keep up, no chance of somone digging up my bones later on and using them for "science"--they'd probably say I was the "missing link".

As far as I know, there's nothing in the Bible that would turn me against it.

I just don't know. I went to my dads grave last year while in Ky. Had grass growed up all around. Sombody used bolt cutters to steal the bronze vais. I made up my mind that day, I don't want anyone having to upkeep a grave site. I wanted to be cremated. Also I thought to myself, its just not logical to bury. And Paul says we will get new bodies all the time.

But the caveat. During biblical times, they took such care of the corpse. They washed it, dressed it. Something to think about.

I just don't know.

CREMATION WAS ALWAYS DONE BY THE PAGAN NATIONS, SUCH AS THE VIKINGS AND OTHERS, WHSE RELIGIONS DIDN'T TEACH THE RESURRECTION.

THE BURRIAL OF THE BODY WAS ALWAYS DONE BY THE PEOPLE OF ISRAEL AS A MEANS OF RETURNING THE DUST TO THE DUST WHERE IT CAME FROM IN A NATURAL WAY.A JEW MUST BE BURRIED IN THE GROUND AND NO CONCRETE VAULT USED ALSO THE CASKET MUST BE WOOD SO THAT IT TURNS INTO EARTH AS WELL AS THE BODY.

ALL THE PATRIARCHS OF THE BIBLE WERE BURRIED NOT CREMATED, JESUS WAS BURRIED SO WE SHOULD FOLLOW IN HIS WAYS, JOSEPH WAS EVEN MOMMIFIED IN EGYPT AND BURRIED IN HEBRON.
MY VIEW IS THAT RESURRECTION IS PROMISED NOT RECONSTRUCTION OR RECREATION, WHO CAN SAY WHAT THE MECHANISMS OF THE RESURRECTIONS ARE.???

the Bible neither condemns it or condones so i guess it's up to the individual. Personally,I will be buried..

The Chinese (non-Christian) buried. The Egyptians (non-Christian) mummified. So one could say that either practice was/is also practiced by pagans--I don't see that as a valid argument. Dead bodies must be disposed of in one way or another. Often the family will choose how this is done and the person who died doesn't have any control over it.

Christ's body was placed in a tomb--something that not just anyone in any part of the country can do. Christ's body also didn't remain on earth very long after His death.

Unless I can read scripture that tells me differently, I'm going to accept that this is a non-issue as far as religion goes and God did not set forth any guidelines for it, so it must be optional. Being buried, sealed in a tomb, cremated, buried at sea--it's all disposing of an empty shell. I'm not one to let traditions determine my beliefs, especially when I don't know what those traditions stemmed from. Maybe a lack of wood was the reason some buried. Maybe the fear of spreading disease was the reason some cremated. If it was important, God would have told us.
