I fell into a debate with a friend of mine about the consequences of sin. Without letting on to my position in the disagreement, I wanted to ask what you guys think.
Once we are "saved" do you think that we still are faced with the consequences for our past sins? I'm speaking in terms of here on earth.

Sure. If you rob a bank and don't get caught and say years later you found christ. Now after you were saved the police figured out you were the bank robber. Your going to jail saved or not.

Yep you reap what you sew.If you are a drunk before getting saved and killed your liver. After salvation your liver is still damaged and could die from it

I couldn't beleive what I was reading, until I re-read your post, and saw the "Here on earth" part.[8D]
As Christians, we are supposed to forgive, as we would have the Father forgive us. If the whole world were "perfect" Christians, with the ability to forgive like God Almighty, then I'd say no, we shouldn't face consequences.
But we're fallen and imperfect, aren't we? And in society, we have to answer to non-Christians, or athiest institutions. It is fealt that there are debts to be paid to society, etc.
God will forgive you for all of your sins and you will face no condemnation in Heaven. However, our actions here on earth have consequences. While God could cause you to go unpunished on earth for your past actions, most often, this is not the case.
God forgives, men usually don't.

Leaf River Mac I started a thread recently about the superiority of Jeses' atonement for sin that he provided us with over what is found in the Old Testament. In the New Testament it say's once you are saved your sins will no longer be remembered.
In the Old Testament God says that he will forgive a trespass if the right offering is made, but that the punishment will still be done (it is found in the discriptions of the different kinds of offerings for different offenses).
In the New testament we see a number of times where Jesus healed people and told them to go forth and sin no more. To me it reads that atleast some people suffer certian things because of a sin they have commited. The people Jesus healed were healed, the punsihment stopped, I see no reason to believe that the forgiveness we recieve when we become saved works any differently. Jesus told the fellow your sins are forgiven as he healed him, the pharasies<sp> wanted to stone him, but the fellow with the forgiven sins suffered no more from his ailment.
If a person continues to suffer from the effects of past sins, in my opinion, then it is their own doing, it is not from God.
Thanks
Mr-Pirk

I agree pretty much with everybody . .Dave said it as I would have. I agree with Mr Pirks last statement "then it is their own doing, it is not from God." We can recieve forgivness and we can have healing in a lot of different ways. I do believe tho that sin has consequences that are beyond ourselves. Or is it just me? When you consider that there are folk born, killed, maimed, etc, as a result of sin and no amount of forgivness will change that.

Moses sinned when he disobeyed God so because of that he didn't get to go into the promised land but he is in heaven..yes, our sins are forgiven and cast as far as the east is from the west and buried in the deepest part of the sea, but there will be consequences from them..
