I dont know why but I just enjoy lifes simple pleasures. Like sunsets, sunrises, being out in the woods watching all the creatures. Here on campus there are squirrels, and chipmunks just running all around. I get alot of enjoyment watching them. Enjoying what God has given us there is no sin enjoying these natural things. It just makes you feel better when everything around you like school, work, relationship problems when all that goes bad just to enjoy lifes simple pleasures. Why has mankind had to make life so hard by inventing all these complex gadgets.

I rather have a bad day in the woods then a good day at work
all those things have a calming effect on most people, like the saying you got to stop and smell the roses, or the mossy oak commercial, "God only gave me so many sunrises" time alone to reflect on your life, your relationship with God, and with your family, to me some of the best time you can spend is time doing nothing but thinking, with no outside interference, no cell phones,tv,radio, and on and on, and with a clear mind, i used to think this old man i knew was goofy, at the time it was happening i didn't know what was going on, but this old manwould decide it was time to go take a walk, he would walk along the creek or thru the woods, now i know what he was doing, he was clearing his mind of all the bad and replacing it with good and calming ideas and thoughts, i know this now because my granfather told me before he passed away why he "took these little walks"
keep paying attention to the important things in life, God, family, friends everything else is just passing

It is our attitude at the beginning of a difficult task which, more than anything else, will affect its successful outcome.

I once thought I found the prime hunting spot for deer. I set up when you couldn't see 2 feet. When the sun started to rise, I realized I was in a bad spot. Could've moved, but it was so beautiful and calming, I just sat there for 3 hours. It was truely one of those religious experiences you can't put in words, but I'm sure you all have been there once or twice. In retrospect, maybe it was the "prime location?"

Amen,
One very simple but powerful Word in the Word is to give God thanks in ALL things. Our words are very powerful and God is always looking at our attitudes which is a reflection of our faith. here are a couple of verses that explain what I'm talking about.
6:30 Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith? IMHO Faithless or little faith folks worry. A tell tale that it is time for a bath in God's Word / fast. maybe prayer. Anyway ...get help
6:31 Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed?
6:32 (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things. God knows we need these things. I believe "'your Father" is used 15 times in the sermon on the Mount. Again ..worry is not good. A message for me.
6:33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. Before homes, lands,orgirlfriends..or worry.SEEK GOD FIRST. On your knees, in His Word and in every circumstance striving to be obedient according to God's Word. When I don't do thatI worry thus missing out on REAL LIFE. KNOWING GOD. 6:34 Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.
One day at a time we are reminded . We are also reminded that each day has it's fair share of trials. Fact Alex quoted this yesterday MANY are the afflictions of the righteous. but God delivers us out of them ALL."
Therefore we can be thankful knowing who has the last word.
1 Thess. 5:18 In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.
You know, up until about 2 1/2 years ago, I never really paid much attention to the "simple things in life." But then I was stuck with going through kidney failure. I spend a little more than a year on dialysis, and April 1st, 2004, my best friend gave me a kidney. I had a whole new take on life. Now, whenever I am out in the woods, or walking through town, or anything, I make it a point to observe and respect what God has put on this earth. It seems that every living thing has some form of beauty to it. When I was out hunting elk a couple of weeks ago, it was just amazing to be out in his creations, one on one with nature. I took in everything I saw, and will remember that for quite some time. I think this season is one of my more memorable ones to date.
One other thing I have learned is to be patient and take life in stride. Nothing seems to "get under my skin" now either, which makes life's little trials and tribulations easier to handle.

Charlie I know where you are coming from brother, we all have a life changing event at one time or another that wakes us up to what is important in life and what isn't.
With me it was about 8-9 years ago, I had all the classic symptoms of a heart attack, very long story short, even though I was hospitalized and off work for a month, it was basically NOTHING!!! Well at least it was according to the doctors, I have a strong feeling it was God giving me a wake up call as to what was important and what was not. Up until then I used to obsess with problems at work, I also had some personal problems that were eating me alive. After my wake up call I decided that God and family came first and everything else came after that, I also decided that any worries I had that I had no control over I would turn over to God and not worry about them because I knew God would take care of them, the problems I had control over, with Gods help I took control of them. I am now a very happy man and enjoy all of the small things in life, from the great outdoors, to a simple smile from one of my children or grandchildren!

Very well put. I have this one place I hunt that will probably never be that great for deer, but it is so beautiful! I tend to be reflective and always asking God questions--sort of like my little 5 year old , Alex--you know, the why, and what questions. I asked about this very thing--why is it that we find such joy and pleasure out of these things? Simply put, because they are what remains unspoiled by man. they are His creations and speak volumes about His attention to detail, beauty, purity, and they are here for all to enjoy, regardless of our financial, social, physical or any other limitation. I love to sit by a fire, or listen to creek run. One of my favorite sounds in the woods(other than an approaching deer!) is the songs of the animals--crows, all other birds, the chirp of a chipmunk, the scolding of a squirrel, etc. Thanks for the reminder deerhunter!
