Real good today. Preacher said something that really clicked with us.
He was talking about, why bad things happen to some and good to others. And talking about God being a Soviegn God. He said, "If we easily understood him or his plans, he wouldn't be much of a God". Thats too, how could we wrech's ever hope to be even think of being able to understand someone who made all of us, and the Earth?
Very true bigcountry. Look at the earth compared to the universe. We are a speck. But in our infancy he gives us a choice for the largest gift of all. Eternal life with him.

I know I don't post much here, but what I do post I believe wholeheartedly. So when it comes to "why do some of us suffer more than others" here is my philosophy.
I believe that we are here to learn and to grow. Here is what I know. If Adam and Eve wouldn't have eaten from the tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil then #1 we would never have been here and #2 there would be no joy for they wouldn't have known pain. If we are to have happiness we have to know sadness. If we are to know easy times we have to go through the hard ones, too. I believe that we are here to learn and grow. I think most of us have heard that if you have an egg that is hatching and you crack open the shell for the chick, the chick will most likely die. It has to go through the challenge of getting out of the shell to be able to have strength to live. Why should we be any different? What right do we have to ask God to make our lives so easy that we shouldn't have any challenges? When do we grow the most? When we have challenges and turmoil if we "Knock and it will be opened up to you, seek and ye shall find" we learn. Right? As we grow, we come to understand our Heavenly Father better. I believe that our goals as we live should be to try and become as much like Christ as we can. I will be the first to say that I have a very long way to go for this. But if we put our lives next to his, who had it worse? Who prayed in the Garden of Gethsemane, who was whipped and then NAILED to the cross? All so that we could be with Him again. Do we sometimes have it hard? Yes. Why should we be any different than Him? Yes, he suffered for our sins. But He didn't suffer so that we shouldn't ever have to suffer. Most of the times that I have been in challenging moments I have to remind myself of this. I have to keep these thoughts in the forefront of my mind. I keep thinking, "The only distance between God and myself is the distance that I put there myself." Your prayers will always be answered. Maybe not in the way that you want them to be, maybe when you want to hear yes, he says no. Maybe His answer is, "You already know. Now go and search some more." I have no doubt that He loves and knows each and every one of us. You know all of your children, right? That's what we are. His children. And he knows and loves each and every one of us, faults and all.

I have to agree with most of what Hikchick is saying. The hardest thing to teach my children is to not ask God for things. I try to explain to them that when they pray, they should be thanking God for what they have and what they have the opportunity to gain. Not ask for what they want. I think too many people have mistaken prayer for a time to ask God for the winning numbers to the Lottery or something. The only thing I have ever asked God for is to help me find the strength he has already given me to handle whatever troubling thing is in front of me. God won't hand you hardships you can't handle. It is up to each of us to have the faith in God to face what we must.
