Default " Be Still "

[align=left]
Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen; I will be exalted in the earth.
Psalm 46:10

Have you ever turned on your television or radio; not to watch or listen to it but just so that it will block out the silence. There are so many opportunities throughout our day for us to avoid being quiet and alone with our thoughts, and our God. How many times do we watch with awe, as the sunsets at the end of the day, or notice that the leaves are beginning to change color, and the flowers blossoming, or even take the time to enjoy the food that we eat? Most of these precious events pass us by, for the most part, un-noticed as we scurry off to our next appointment, or engagement. Every moment of our lives does not have to occupy a particular space. We can slow down, stop for more than a minute and enjoy all that surrounds us. God has created beautiful things in our lives, that we fail to see, because we fail to slow down. We expect quite the opposite of God. We go to Him in prayer and present our needs and essentially stipulate that He performs as we request and impatiently wait for our petitions to be fulfilled. God is not in a hurry and He certainly does not have to abide by our schedules. We are the one's that need to slow down, sit back and soak in all that He is and all that He is surrounds us daily. We are always looking for the grand events but too often miss the day to day events in our midst that are truly awesome.
Prayer
Help us to turn off the noise in our lives so that we can hear you and see you in every part of our day. You have surrounded us with yourself. Everywhere we look, everywhere we go, you are there. Help us to be still, break away from our routines and realize your glory in our midst today. Amen.

Silence is as deep as eternity, speech a shallow as time.

Silence is more eloquent than words.

Silence is the element in which great things fashion themselves together.

Speech is human, silence is divine, yet also brutish and dead: therefore we must learn both arts.

Alex,
I do this often. When I need to hear God or realize my mouth is getting too foolish or tempted to go into gossip mode I put myself on the clock. I do this about 5 times a week. The ' clock ' is when no matter what I won't talk for about 5 hours. I make myself be still. I actually find it better than fasting. As soon as we purpose to be still the Lord seems to speak to us.

Psalm 34:
34:11 Come, ye children, hearken unto me: I will teach you the fear of the LORD.

34:12 What man is he that desireth life, and loveth many days, that he may see good?

34:13 Keep thy tongue from evil, and thy lips from speaking guile.

PS My wife gets mad at me sometimes when I won't speak because I hav eto write things down. Overall she loves it. Why ? Because we get alot more profitable work done when we don't sit around and gap. Saturdays are great days to go on silence. Then, at noon I may take her out to lunch and speak again with prayer over the food. This helps me probably more than anything .
Proverbs 10:19 In the multitude of words there wanteth not sin: but he that refraineth his lips is wise.

Amen Bro. Alex.

It is funny, but there are times when I seek the silence, it is also the times when I am the most in tune with God. One of the best things about hunting and fishing is simply sitting there in the silence drinking in all of Gods creation and praying about anything and everything.
